Carson City Fire Department and East Fork Fire Protection District have sent brush engines Monday to battle the Woodchuck Fire burning west of Reno.
Recommended evacuations are underway as the fire threatens homes in the area. Residents in the south and southeast area of Woodchuck Circle have been advised to evacuate due to a brush fire near Woodchuck Circle and Hunter Lake Trail.
Plateau Road is closed from Caughlin Parkway to Mayberry Drive, according to the Washoe Sheriff's Office.
Carson City has sent Brush Engine 52, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. East Fork sent a Tweet saying a crew was on its way.
The fire is being fueled by wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph. A Red Flag Fire Weather Warning was issued earlier Monday for much of western Nevada due to the high winds expected. The warning runs until 10 p.m.
The Woodchuck fire was reported at around 1:30 p.m. and has burned around 30 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch.
