DUIs, assaults and disorderly calls keep Carson City deputies busy over weekend

Carson City sheriff's deputies were busy over Mother's Day weekend with several misdemeanor-related calls involving domestic battery, DUIs, assault, and court warrant arrests.

A man was arrested Saturday in the 2100 block of East William Street on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and violation of a suspended sentence after he allegedly punched and kicked his girlfriend.

According to the arrest report filed by a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy, officers responded to a hotel and casino at 5:04 a.m. and met with security regarding the suspect who had beaten up his girlfriend.

Anti-bullying campaign founder says issue is epidemic that requires community solutions

The statistic is staggering: 56 percent of school children, grades 5-12, or about 13 million nationwide say they've been a target of bullies at one time or another.

It's a problem that affects communities, families and schools. Tackling the issue takes a commitment from parents, teachers, law enforcement, elected officials and children themselves. That was the message delivered Saturday at workshop in Carson City presented by the founding members of the national nonprofit group Teach Anti-Bullying, Inc.

The 11th annual Carson City Sheriff's Office "Cops and Kids" Open House, billed as the "Safest Street Party in Carson City," will be Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the sheriff's office, 911 East Musser Street.

The free community event features, activities, ID kits for children, food, music, games and more.

On hand will be the sheriff's office K9 dogs, motorcycle patrol unit, Special Enforcement Team, stellar squad, a new SWAT unit, representatives from DARE, and the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Carson City Sheriff's Special Enforcement Team arrest two in Corbett Street drug bust

Two people were jailed Friday on felony drug charges during an investigation that involved the Tri-County Gang Unit and the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team.

Rebecca Peltier, 31, was arrested at 6:44 p.m. in the 100 block of Corbett Street in Carson City on suspicion of maintaining a drug house, and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies. A 42-year-old Reno man, Jason Leon Baker, was also arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

WNC Softball: Wildcats unable to top College of Southern Nevada

Western Nevada College Wildcats Softball plays host to the Coyotes of the College of Southern Nevada this weekend for the final series of the 2014 season. Games began Friday afternoon at Edmonds Sports Complex. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

WNC fell 5-15, despite a fifth inning rally in the first game, and dropped the second game, 5-14.

Two women arrested after early morning vehicle chase with Carson City sheriff's deputies

Two women were arrested early Wednesday morning after leading Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies on a vehicle chase that ended off road near the water tower off of Koontz Lane.

Amber Wolfe, 22, was arrested at 1:59 a.m. and faces felony charges of eluding and being in violation of probation conditions. She also faces lesser charges of reckless driving and operating a vehicle with expired registration. The Winnemucca woman is being held without bail on the probation violation charge and $20,000 bail on the eluding charge.

Carson City sheriff's mounted horse patrol training begins Wednesday

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit will host training sessions for reserve officers Wednesday through Sunday at Silver Saddle Ranch and Fuji Park.

The private training sessions may include use of fireworks and simulated gunfire, said Joe Bruno, commander of the CCSO Mounted Unit. The public should take note and not be alarmed, he said.

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest pair on felony drug charges

A man and woman were arrested Monday on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Mary Jenae Adams, 24, of Carson City and Michael Louis Kizer, 30, of Schurz, Nev., were taken into custody at 9:51 a.m. in the area of Northridge and Roop streets.

Carson City sheriff's SET team arrest man in Tri-Net heroin bust

A 31-year-old Carson City man was one of three arrested Wednesday, in the 300 block of East William Street by Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team officers in a heroin sting operation with the Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force.

Kenneth Jay Case faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. Two others were arrested. The reports were not immediately available.

Carson City Sheriff's Office administration functions closed Friday in honor of Arlene Keller

The Carson City Sheriff's Office administrative functions will be closed Friday as staff pays their respects to Arlene Denmark Keller, 64, a Lead Support Specialist with the sheriff's office since 1991, who died April 19, 2014.

Services will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at Shepherd of the Sierra, 3680 Highway 395. Keller is survived by her husband Charles Keller, daughters Hilary Smith, Wendy Tims and son Charles Keller III. A loving wife and mother, her laughter and cheer will be missed by all at the city and Sheriff’s Office staff.

Three arrested on heroin possession charges in Carson City Tri-Net sting

Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force arrested three men Wednesday afternoon in Carson City on felony heroin possession charges as well as obstructing officers and drug paraphernalia.

The arrests went down at around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a Carson City fast food restaurant in the 300 block of William Street. According to task force officers, the men resisted arrest at first but were quickly detained.

Carson City Sheriff's Office warns of new phone scam using law enforcement officers names

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is again receiving calls from the public in regards to money scams. The first one involves citizens being called and told that a warrant for their arrest has been issued for failure to show up for jury duty.

The caller identifies himself using an actual deputy or Nevada Highway Patrol officers name to convince the called party that this is real.

The caller has also given the name of current judges as being the ones who have signed the warrant. He will then try to convince the called party to send a MoneyPak or some other form of pre-paid debit card.

Law enforcement agencies warn of telephone scam targeting grandparents

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a telephone scam involving grandparents of college-aged students. The scammers recently bilked a Douglas County couple of $4,000, said Sgt. Pat Brooks. In Carson City, people have been targeted in the past with a similar scam.

The way the scam works is a caller phones a relative, usually a grandparent, and informs them their grandchild has gotten into trouble with the law while on spring break. In the most recent case, the grandchild was said to be in trouble with the law in Nashville, Tenn.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make two misdemeanor warrant arrests

A 22-year-old Carson City man was booked into the Carson City Jail on Wednesday, 4:45 p.m. on a misdemeanor warrant charge of violation of a suspended sentence. The warrant was issued Jan. 23, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court for failure to appear. Bail: $3,000.

In other arrests: A Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday, 7:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Curry Street on a contempt of court warrant charge, issued out of Carson City Justice Court.

Carson City Sheriff: Victim of Thursday night beating dies

UPDATE: The two men arrested in the fatal beating Thursday of a Carson City man said they were allegedly accosted by the victim who came after them with a machete, according to information obtained by Carson Now.

Leon Arellano Pacheco, 61, died Friday of traumatic injuries to the brain after being beaten in the parking lot of Stanton Arms apartments Thursday night. Two brothers, Ruri Santiago, 27, and Alfredo Santiago, 29, are being held without bail in Carson City Jail.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make three misdemeanor-related arrests overnight

A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Wednesday morning in the 1200 block of Crain Street on misdemeanor warrants of marijuana and paraphernalia possession.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy was alerted by dispatch that the woman was at her boyfriend's home on Crain Street.

Officers went to the address and the woman was taken into custody at 3:26 a.m. based on the warrant issued April 7, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest two in separate cases involving child neglect

Two people were arrested by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies this weekend in separate cases, each on suspicion of child neglect and other charges.

In the first arrest, a 47-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail Sunday, 12:50 a.m. after being arrested in the 1400 block of East William Street. She faces three gross misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, misdemeanor DUI and failure to maintain lanes.

Carson City sheriff's SET team arrests man on warrant, finds meth in motel room

A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and four misdemeanor charges including two counts violation of a suspended sentence.

Scott Alan Tucker is being held on $10,374 bond. According to the arrest report, deputies with the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team conducted a warrant service on Tucker at a motel room in the 2700 block of South Carson Street.

Carson City Sheriff's Office make multiple felony drug-related arrests over weekend

A home care provider was booked Friday into Carson City Jail on three felony warrants charges involving burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

Ella May Dix, 50, of Reno was taken into custody by the Carson City Sheriff's Office after the woman arrived at the front counter for the warrants. The three felony charges are out of Las Vegas Justice Court and issued Jan. 15, 2014. Bail: $80,000.

Safety improvements built into Highway 50 repaving plans between Carson City and Dayton

A $6-plus million repaving project along a stretch of Highway 50 east of Carson City is planned for late spring through summer with some safety improvements built into the plans, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Merge lane improvements, slope flattening, the installation of a t-intersection and turn lanes for easier access at Flint Drive and State Route 341 are scheduled as part of the safety upgrades on Highway 50 between Deer Run Road and east of SR341, said NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese.

This is the second place photo for the Carson City Photo Club for the month of March. The theme was texture and pattern in black and white. This photo was taken by Nicole Grant of Nicole Grant Photography and is of a barn near Wilson Commons Park in Washoe Valley. I am a local portrait photographer and I joined the club because I was looking for something to expand my horizon and push me to photography new scenes. The club meets the last Wednesday of every month at the Carson City Sheriff Office at 6:30PM.
