Carson City emergency crews respond to crash at Fairview and I-580 ramp

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called Wednesday morning to a two-vehicle crash near the on-ramp at Fairview and I-580.

Wednesday morning first update: Fire in south Carson City 15 percent contained, 500 acres

The Voltaire Fire burning in south Carson City is estimated at around 500 acres and is 15 percent contained as of around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

UPDATE 11:09PM: A voluntary evacuation order was placed Tuesday night for the Carson Colony area off of Curry Street in South Carson City. The Voltaire Canyon area is also voluntary evacuation. Plans are in the works to open a shelter for those displaced.

UPDATE 10:54PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Tuesday night's fire at Voltaire Canyon was started by campers who were burning excrement and toilet paper.

There were two campers detained and were cooperative, said Furlong. There were up to eight individuals who were camping in the area who were taken off the hill.
The two who were detained were cooperative and provided statements. Charges, if any, would be filed by the U.S. Forest Service, which has jurisdiction of the land that is burning, said Furlong.

UPDATE 10:03PM: The fire in Voltaire Canyon that is burning in southwest Carson City is on Forest Service land and is moving toward last year’s burn area, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. While there are not any structures threatened at this time, a voluntary evacuation remains for the Voltaire Canyon area.

There remains concern of winds pushing the fire into other areas, said Slamon. There are currently firefighters staged at C-Hill and Kings Canyon areas. While there are not any evacuation orders for those areas at this time, Slamon is advising people in the C-Hill and Kings Canyon areas to be prepared to leave.

UPDATE: 07:30PM: The Chaves Fire has now burned about 400 acres of BLM land near Stagecoach and Dayton. Fire crews with BLM, Nevada Division of Forestry and Central Lyon County Fire Protection District, among others, are on scene battling the blaze.

UPDATE 12:49PM: Three people were injured, two critically in the vehicle crash involving a white sedan and white pickup. All three have been removed from the vehicles and are awaiting medical transport. A Care Flight helicopter has landed at the scene, according to a Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Friday morning to the area of 5th and Stewart streets for a report of a natural gas leak.

Carson City emergency crews called to crashes at North Carson and Nye, Saliman and Fairview

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday evening to two separate vehicle accidents that happened at around the same time, one at North Carson and Nye and the other at Saliman and Fairview.

The calls came into dispatch at around 6:10 p.m. No serious injuries were reported but the crashes were blocking traffic lanes. Motorists can expect delays.

Carson City Fire Department called to structure fire at Pheasant Drive apartment

UPDATE 3:58PM: The conditions of two juveniles who were injured in the Wednesday morning apartment fire on Pheasant Drive have improved since being admitted to the emergency room, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. An 8-year-old, who was asleep at the time of the fire, suffered life threatening injuries when transported to the hospital. The 17-year-old suffered moderate burns and smoke inhalation.
"I believe the only reason they are alive today is for the actions of the Carson City Fire Department," said Furlong.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

UPDATE 12:22PM: Two juveniles were rescued in the Wednesday morning apartment fire on Pheasant Drive, said Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon. The fire has been extinguished and four apartments units have been damaged. Estimates of damage are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, he said.
