CARSON CITY — Nineteen Carson High School Capital FFA students yielded bushels of awards at the Nevada State FFA Conference held at the University of Nevada Reno March 20-24. Most notably, the CHS Career and Technical Education students were honored with the Best Dressed Chapter Award, recognizing the chapter as the most professional chapter at the conference.

CARSON CITY — More than 115 Carson High School Career and Technical Education, Health Occupations Students of America shined in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nev. last month. More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

The other day, I was watching Katy Perry’s music video for the song “Rise.” The video shows Perry looking strong, strapped to a large red parachute that is pulling her upright, up into the air. She smiles. But then life happens. She’s grounded. She’s crawling through the dirt, hanging off the edge of a cliff. She’s drowning in water. It seems things get worse and worse. A military career showed Daniel Lear that he wanted to spend his life helping others. Adult life has taken Lear on a few twists and turns, but it hasn’t changed his primary goal to assist people. CARSON CITY — What goes around comes around. Monte Fast has spent his life helping others, and now that he is in need of a little help, it has come to him. Fast was executive director of FISH, Friends in Service Helping, for 20 years. His career has also included serving as a pastor, a musician, music teacher and choir director.

MINDEN — Douglas County's Chief Financial Officer Vicki Moore resigned effective Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Moore tendered her resignation to County Manager, Larry Werner.

I used to say, “expectations are pre-meditated resentments.” I used to try to stop myself from having expectations, of myself, others, and outcomes. Every time I tried to stop myself, I waged a private war in my head. What I didn’t realize at the time is that I needed to stop communicating with myself so much and start communicating with others.

This Friday, March 23, the Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Ronn Vigh. Early in his career, Ronn Vigh's brash attitude and acerbic wit earned him a comparison to a young Joan Rivers by the SF Weekly. It was certainly a fitting comparison as Ronn later became a writer for Rivers on her hit E!
