Hospital unveils brick campaign and remodel as part of gift from Carson City family

Locke and Betty Ray Lesch are longtime, generous supporters of their community and Carson Tahoe Health. Upon learning that the front entrance of the Carson City hospital was in critical need of renovation including a costly new door system to improve patient access and resist harsh weather elements, they donated $100,000 toward the project.

Appeal For Kids 2015 campaign to Benefit Austin’s House

Austin’s House in Carson Valley is celebrating eight years of providing compassionate care in Douglas County and nearby rural counties for children in crisis with the annual giving campaign, the 2015 Appeal For Kids. The 10-bedroom facility opened in September 2007 and was built entirely with donations from the community.

Tahoe’s own cartoon bear reeducates residents by subtle suggestion

First-time author Jake Willers was inspired to write this children’s picture book after spending the past seven years filming urban bears. He recently produced a film entitled Urban Bears: Keeping Nevada’s Bears Wild! for Washoe County Health District and has presented wildlife programs as a wildlife expert filming around the globe for the National Geographic Channel International and for UK’s Channel 5. Grocery Outlet in Carson City held its 5th Annual Independence From Hunger Food Drive through July with customers donating 160 bags of groceries and giving $1,387 in cash to a local food bank.

This year's recipient of the donations was the Dayton Food Pantry. Freida Carbery, volunteer coordinator for Healthy Communities Coalition, which operates the Dayton Food Pantry, was at the Carson City Grocery Outlet Store this week and extended her thanks to store owners David and Lynne Cox, employees and the Carson City community.
