The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums, American Association of University Women Capital Branch, and PFLAG Carson Region, will present election forums Wednesday, Oct. 12 and Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Come out and enjoy an evening with some of Northern Nevada’s best stand-up comics! Then try out some stand-up comedy of your own at the post-show open mic!

The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a Stand-Up Comedy Showcase on Saturday, Oc. 8 at 8 pm (doors at 7:30) at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. Carson City, NV 89703. Sundown is a 1941 American war film directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Gene Tierney and Bruce Cabot. The film's adventure story, set against a World War II backdrop in British East Africa, was well received by critics, earning three Academy Award nominations.

Let the Sierra Nevada Forum's panel inform you about the facts and fictions of recreational marijuana from Colorado's experience. The Community Development building on East Proctor, formerly the 'BRIC', hosts an artist reception for the talented students in the Capital City Arts Initiative 'High School Pic[ks]' show.

Voters can learn more about Question 2 regarding recreational marijuana on November’s ballot during the Sierra Nevada Forum on Tuesday at the Brewery Arts Center.

Wild Horse Children’s Theater looking for actors, singers and dancers, ages 5 To 18, for our holiday production of "Elf, The Musical, Jr."

This show will be directed by Carol Scott, musically directed by Alan Catron, choreographed by Robin Kato, and produced by Pat Josten – the same team who brought you Disney’s Aladdin, Jr.

The 13th annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival continued Thursday evening with a performance by the Carolyn Dolan Band and members of the Reno Jazz Orchestra at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall on King Street.

Impressions of Jazz: Art, and Music History will be held in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall in Carson City on Thursday, August 11, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. The week keeps on rolling along and every day brings some new kind of fun. Kick up your heels at Carson Lanes: Country Line dance lessons tonight. Westside Pour House hosts the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz each week; it’s a great excuse to grab some friends and fight for bragging rights. The launch party of ‘The Studio’ at the Adams Hub on Proctor Street invites you tour the building, learn about the incubator’s resources, meet some of Carson’s movers and shakers, and enjoy some treats.

The weekend is moments away, Carson City. While you’re waiting, enjoy an outdoor concert with local favorite, Stereo Galaxy, at Living the Good Life. FRIDAY:

The Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club presents the 14th Annual Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs. Carson City plays host as the event headquarters. Runners packets are being distributed today, Friday, in the legislative mall.

This three day event with over 550 participants and at least as many volunteers, began in 2001 as a 50 Mile and 50 Kilometer Endurance Run. The 100 Mile event was added in 2006 and is an internationally recognized Ultra Event.

The fireworks went off in Carson City last night without a hitch, bringing the end of another incredible weekend. Today may feel a little like a Monday, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. Check out the new Spirit of America show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Show. Our local Classic Cinema Club meets tonight and will be showing 'A Walk in the Sun' with Dana Andrews. If you feel like playing with fire, Controlled Burn meets at A to Zen to practice the right way to handle the flames.

TUESDAY:

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

Harry Brown's honest, unsentimental WW2 novel, A Walk in the Sun, has been effectively adapted for the screen by Robert Rossen. Dana Andrews stars as Sgt. Tyne, a platoon squad leader who assumes command of his platoon as they trudge through the Italian countryside in search of a bridge they have been ordered to blow up encountering danger and destruction along the way.

General admission $5; Senior/Student $3; Free for members. Doors open at 6:00pm with trivia and discussion at 6:30pm. The film begins at 7:00pm at The Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street.

Step into the past today: the Pony Express re-ride is coming through town. It’s anticipated around 2 p.m. and you can follow their path online HERE. World War II buffs are going to love the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport; you have until Sunday afternoon to see the planes. Head to Telegraph Square downtown for the first Community Art Night sponsored by Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and the Charlie B. Gallery.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Western Nevada is hosting a Mental Health Legal Forum designed to assist the families of children and adults with mental illness in knowing the services available in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Churchill, and Washoe counties and knowing their rights as family members.

Ready for Mad Max on bikes? Muscle Powered encourages you to ride your bike down to see "Turbo Kid" Thursday, June 16, 6 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. Not Rated, but would be R for violence. Lots of blood. Movie is free. Come early and enjoy refreshments from the BAC and from the food trucks. Movie Trivia host Mike Wiecenek, AKA RokMyke. It is primary election day in Nevada. For Carsonites who didn't vote early, you can choose to vote at the Community Center or at the County Clerk's office, regardless of precinct. Join the Nevada National Guard at the Capitol for their Flag Day ceremony and celebration of the Army’s birthday. Mile High Jazz Band has something special in store.
