The Reno Blues Society is putting a new spin on the pub crawl craze with the inaugural “Balloons and Blues Strut” on September 10 at five venues on East 4th Street with a local blues band at each venue playing between 5:30 and 9:30pm, all for just $5.

It’s balloon race weekend so to encourage those folks looking for earlier entertainment that day, they would have an option.

SILVER CITY, Nev. — The "Silver Pavilion" Inaugura- Palooza concert on August 20th was a big success with at least 150 folks from near and far in attendance during the 6 hour event. The festival style public event was held to celebrate the much anticipated addition of a new outdoor stage to the region's arts and music scene.

The weekend has arrived and there are festivals everywhere. A Basque Festival and Picnic can be found in Gardnerville. Bowers Mansion hosts a Bluegrass Festival for the 31st year. Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival returns to King Beach for the weekend. The Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has infiltrated the whole valley with musicians. I hope you like live music, Carson City, because tonight you’ve got plenty of it. No matter what your style, there is someone for you. Take the kids to the Nevada State State Train Museum for Lucky Diamond and the Gents of Jive or to the McFadden Plaza for an outdoor concert with Musicole. Leave the kids with a sitter if you’re going to head to Living the Good Life for some outdoor fun with CV-41 or inside the Westside Pour House with reggae group Whiskey Lung. Jazz and more filled the air around the Nevada state capital Tuesday night as the annual Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival continues through Aug. 21.

What a fun Wednesday in store for Carson City. The usual options of Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House, Country Line Dancing at Carson Lanes, and the Farmers Market in McFadden Plaza still apply. Throw in some great music on the veranda at Adele's, a Ukulele Jam at Mormon Station in Genoa, and a Vintage Chevy Meet-up in Virginia City and things get a little more random. Crossroads Lounge is hosting their last Wednesday night karaoke this week; a new night and time will be announced soon. Carson Hot Springs invites all Veterans and Military members to come swim for free today.

Conditions were ideal for an outdoor concert in the country Sunday afternoon. With highs in the eighties, the dog days of August seemed tame compared with seasons past.

Fifteen days of non-stop music begins tonight at the Bliss Mansion with the Jazz and Beyond Garden Party; don’t miss out on the fabulous art show, tours of the historic home, and great jams. Downtown will be rocking tonight as the Carson High Class of 86 celebrates their reunion in Telegraph Square with two live bands. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Just down the street, Living the Good Life welcomes Southbound Train followed by DJ Bobby G. Fuji Park is the place to be for cowboys, broncs, and a great concert celebrating Carson City.

I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Let me, however, attempt to lure you out with this weekend’s event list; there is plenty of fun to be found around the valley. Some of your options even include air conditioning and icy beverages.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! Louisiana’s frequently used Cajun French expression for “Let the good times roll” fits for the Genoa Blues Festival like red beans and rice.

Kenny Neal and the Family Band headline the show from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Genoa Station State Historic Park. Grady Champion, an International Blues Challenge champion, also will perform, along with Reno’s Buddy Emmer Blues Band.

I'm chomping at the bit for Saturday: the Taste of Downtown is almost here. It is one of my absolute favorite events, and one of the most delicious. Grab your tickets at Classy Seconds Thrift Store or the Purple Avocado. A jazz jam with Tom Stryker at Living the Good Life is a great way to soothe the soul.

It’s going to be a beautiful, sunshiny day in Carson City. After a couple of cool, breezy days, the temperatures are returning to the 90s. If this is a beach day, consider sticking around for the Pints and Paddles Cruise on the MS Dixie in Zephyr Cove. Head downtown for some yummy goodness; today’s Farmers Market runs from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Living the Good Life welcomes Rocky and Judith to the stage. Crossroads Lounge is the place to be for all you karaoke lovers out there.

One night each year, John Street, adjacent to Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City is transformed into an intimate music venue for Concert Under the Stars, and for a few precious moments the air is filled with great music, a lot of love and laughter in order to raise money that continues the The Greenhouse Project’s mission of educating the next generation of farmers and feeding the under served in the community.
