Kindness is on the agenda at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. Jimmy Gleich, from the Think Kindness organization will be the featured speaker on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The public is invited to attend. The organization’s mission is to inspire acts of kindness in schools and communities around the world.

Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”

UPDATE: 7:45AM: Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered all state offices in Carson City, Washoe County and Douglas County to open at 10 a.m. Friday morning.

"Due to snow and icy conditions overnight and in the early morning hours, I'm ordering all state government offices in Carson City, Washoe County and Douglas County to open at 10 AM today," the governor Tweeted. "Please allow for plenty of time to safely commute to work this morning."

Closure and delay report for greater Carson City area on Tuesday, Feb. 5

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered all state offices in Carson City, Douglas and Washoe counties to open at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The Carson City Mayor and City Manager have ordered a 10 a.m. delayed opening for municipal offices.

Carson City schools are closed today. There will be no student activities, including after-school and evening programs, practices or contests. No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health.

All Carson Valley schools in Douglas County are operating on a 90-minute delay.

Douglas County lake schools are closed.

Carson High School boys soccer defeats Manogue

Carson High School Boys Varsity Soccer team defeated Bishop Manogue High School 2-0 at home on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Goals were scored by Ricky Gonzalez and Omar Mora. The Boys JV team also defeated Manogue’s JV team 8-2 on Wednesday.

Carson Girl's Golf Wins Again

Carson High School notched its second win in girl's Sierra League golf action at Sierra Sage on Monday. Carson's 358 was 16 better than second place, Bishop Manogue. Leading Carson again were the Beglin sisters with Jill and Karen both shooting solid rounds.

Any senior female residing in the Carson City or Dayton area who will be attending a trade, 2 year or 4 year college/university may apply for this scholarship. She may be attending public, private, charter or home schooled. If the applicant is under 18 years old, at least one parent must be a registered Republican. If the applicant is 18 or older, she may be the registered Republican.

The completed application is due in the counselor's office on the 8th of March.

Former Bishop Manogue baseball player Alec West-Guillen signs with Purdue University

RENO, Nev. – Bishop Manogue Catholic High School graduate, Alec West-Guillen, has signed to play baseball at Purdue University in 2017.

West-Guillen is currently attending the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, where he will graduate in 2017 with an associate’s degree in business. He is maintaining a 4.0 GPA, is on the President’s List and member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Last season, he was named a 2016 NJCAA Top Incoming Freshman and finished with 71 strikeouts on 59 innings pitched and received the Region 18 Honorable Mention.

UNR names Kerri Garcia Director of Communications at the University

Kerri Garcia, an award-winning public relations and communications professional, has been named Director of Communications at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Garcia will lead the University’s efforts in internal and external communications, media relations and will serve as the institution’s primary spokesperson.

Garcia, a 1992 graduate of the University who previously was Community Relations and Communications Manager with Microsoft in Reno, begins work on April 1.

Carson free-throws bury Miners

Key free-throws late in the game helped the Carson High varsity boys basketball team pull away from Bishop Manogue, 50-40, to preserve their unbeaten record, now at 15-0 in the Sierra League.

The visiting Miners cut Carson’s lead to just two points, 40-38, with about three minutes left to play in the fourth period.

But the Senators went on an 8-0 run, including six straight free-throws to build a 10-point advantage with just over a minute left in the game.
