WNC sweeps doubleheader in Colorado

While nothing can be taken for granted, there's no away around it. These are four wins the Western Nevada College baseball team is expected to pick up.
So when snow threatened to postpone one or both games on Friday at Colorado Northwestern Community College, the Wildcats had to be worried. These are wins that WNC needs in the Scenic West Athletic Conference and any games that are lost and not made up could obviously be costly in the SWAC race.

Local baseball notebook: CHS-Galena game postponed; Barnett has huge game

The Carson High-Galena baseball game scheduled for Friday was postponed due to poor weather.

Barnett hits two home runs in Nevada's win

CHS team optimistic

The errors are continuing, but there now seems to be a silver lining for this young Carson High baseball team. It's about as optimistic as a team could be after making six errors.
Even the Senators' former coach, Ron McNutt, who now coaches Galena sees the potential of the young CHS team after his Grizzlies beat Carson 8-2 on Thursday at the field named after him at Carson High.
"Nothing's going to happen but good things for them," McNutt said. "They're going to get better. They're going to be a good ball club."

Nevada-UNLV baseball game cancelled

The University of Nevada's baseball game against  UNLV scheduled for today at Peccole Park has been cancelled due to rain, snow and high winds in the area.

Wildcats travel to Colorado Northwestern Community College

The peaks and valleys of a season can take its toll on any team, so Western Nevada College baseball coach D.J. Whittemore is trying to make sure that his club doesn't become too high or too low.
Whittemore said he has told his team "not to ride the roller coaster." But Whittemore admitted his mood has improved after a four-game sweep of then first place Salt Lake Community College this past weekend in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. "Yeah, I'm feeling a lot better," Whittemore said.

Wolf Pack's Stassi receives WAC honor

University of Nevada designated hitter Brock Stassi was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week on Monday.
Stassi, a junior from Yuba City, Calif., hit .875 (7-for-8) to help the Wolf Pack win two of three games during a weekend series at Peccole against No. 18 UC Irvine. Stassi had three runs scored, a double, three triples, a home run and one RBI in three games.

John L. Harvey Field should be renamed Fantasyland

There is no more reality at John L. Harvey Field. Just rename the place Fantasyland and be done with it. Only the utterly impossible, the ridiculously implausible will ever be possible again.

Confident and relaxed Senators win twice in bottom of the seventh

Two words came to Colby Blueberg's mind when he spoke about the Carson High baseball team's dramatic double header sweep of Fallon on Saturday afternoon -- confidence and relaxed.
"A couple of things didn't go our way today, but we just stayed confident and relaxed," Blueberg said after contributing to game-winning seventh-inning rallies that lifted the Senators to 4-3 and 2-1 Sierra League victories at Ron McNutt Field. "We were able to keep calm and make the plays."

Carson J.V. club sweeps double header

Coupled with a 10-0 win in game one, the Senators completed a sweep of the double header and three-game series against Fallon. The Senators are now 5-1 in league play, 8-2 overall for the season.
