WNC softball club loses twice in Colorado
Submitted by on Fri, 04/02/2010 - 10:13pmIt was a frustrating day for the Western Nevada College softball team, which dropped a doubleheader on Friday at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Scenic West Athletic Conference action.
WNC (4-28, 3-23) lost the opener 4-3 and the nightcap 7-5. The Wildcats fell in the nightcap when Colorado Northwestern hit a two-out, game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie.

Whittemore said he has told his team "not to ride the roller coaster." But Whittemore admitted his mood has improved after a four-game sweep of then first place Salt Lake Community College this past weekend in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. "Yeah, I'm feeling a lot better," Whittemore said.
Wolf Pack's Stassi receives WAC honor

Stassi, a junior from Yuba City, Calif., hit .875 (7-for-8) to help the Wolf Pack win two of three games during a weekend series at Peccole against No. 18 UC Irvine. Stassi had three runs scored, a double, three triples, a home run and one RBI in three games.
Carson boys cap day with 4x400 relay gold medal run

A year ago, the Carson High girls celebrated when they won the 4x400 at the Fallon Elks Invitational, and on Saturday, the Carson boys took their turn when the quartet of Taylor Bradshaw, David McMasters, Brandon Buonacorsi and Nick Schlager won to cap off their day at the 37th annual Fallon invite at Churchill County High's Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats took undefeated Salt Lake the seven-inning distance in both games before losing 7-1 and 6-1 during the Scenic West Athletic Conference twin-bill at Bruin Field in Salt Lake City. The outcome was different from Friday, when the Wildcats lost 19-7 and 19-1.

The Wildcats produced timely hitting to pull out a 3-1 opening-game victory against conference-leading Salt Lake Community College, then held on for a 9-8 win in the second game to complete a double header sweep on a sunny and breezy afternoon at John L. Harvey Field.
