Carson City chamber celebrates remodel with Artisan Showcase open house
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/04/2015 - 5:10pmThe Carson City Chamber of Commerce held an open house Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 to unveil its new Artisan Showcase. The works of talented artists from within the region are now showcased along with metal artisan Robbie St Clair who created a special sculpture for the event.
The chamber recently finished an overhaul of its building including adding the Artisan Showcase where local art and jewelry are sold. It commissioned St Clair to recreate the Carson City freeway eagle to a size suitable for displaying in homes or on desks.

Speaking of sports, sign-ups are going on Saturday for Little League, AYSO, and the Sierra Nevada Football League. Spring is almost upon us without ever really giving us a decent taste of winter.
Carson City Chamber unveils eagle art Saturday at grand opening of Artisan Showcase
Submitted by editor on Tue, 01/27/2015 - 4:02pmThe Carson City Chamber will be holding a grand opening and open house Saturday, Jan. 31 to unveil its new Artisan Showcase beginning at 2 pm within the Chamber building at 1900 S. Carson Street.
The works of talented artists from within the region will be showcased along with metal artisan Robbie St Clair who created a special grand opening sculpture for the Carson City Chamber — the Eagle that stands guard over our Eagle Valley seen along the I-580 corridor when entering or leaving our city from the North.
Artisan Showcase at Carson City Chamber now open
Submitted by editor on Fri, 12/26/2014 - 1:18pmWhen the Carson City Chamber purchased the share of the building previously occupied by the visitors bureau, they found themselves with extra space that once housed the visitor center and gift shop operated by the bureau.
What to do with that extra space was the question. Since that vacant space was always operated as a gift shop, the Chamber decided to operate an artisan shop to showcase local talented artists and provide them with yet another outlet to sell their unique art.

Sixteen pieces of original art will also be given away.
According to Judy Carlson, one of the show coordinators, the juried show features returning artists and new artists displaying a variety of techniques and media.

Restaurants are providing the soup and bread that will fill our Empty Bowls. For a minimum donation of $12, you may select one of the bowls and enjoy a warm winter meal to launch the holiday season. The artisan bowl is yours to keep as a reminder that there are empty bowls in our community. There will also be an art auction at the event!
Carson City cheese maker among USDA grant recipients in Northern Nevada

McCleary Ranch, north of Carson City in Washoe County and the Frey Ranch Estate Distillery of Fallon were also approved for Value-Added Producer Grants.

Brewery Arts Center develops survey, asks for feedback to plan upcoming season

The survey is only 22 questions and accessible through the live link here and will remain live until the end of February.
December's Empty Bowls Project in Carson City raises more than $2,700 for FISH

Winter Wine and All That Jazz benefit for the Brewery Arts Center set for Jan. 18

Hundreds donate to Carson City Empty Bowls hunger awareness fundraiser during Silver and Snowflakes holiday festival
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/06/2013 - 10:53pmA grassroots project to raise money and bring awareness of ongoing hunger issues in the Carson City area — The Empty Bowls Project — was the bright diamond among the many shining stars featured at Friday night's downtown Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration.
More than 600 handcrafted artisan bowls made by dozen of local potters were featured for this inaugural event, led by Robin McGregor, owner of Carson City Pottery. Festival-goers paid $10 for each bowl, which were filled with steaming hot varieties of soup donated by local restaurants.
Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights 2013 features Empty Bowls Project fundraiser

The event brings thousands to downtown Carson City marking the city's official kick off of the Christmas and holiday season. Festivities begin at the capitol grounds, 5:30 p.m. where more than 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble will provide musical entertainment.

Empty Bowls is a grass roots movement to end hunger. Local artists young and old donate handmade bowls. Restaurants donate soup and food. For a minimum $10 donation you choose a bowl and fill it with food.
A Walk Down the Fall Art Walk Lane

1) Comma Coffee – The “Backseat Gallery” in the back was featuring art by Barry Mitchell. It was a great opportunity to get a hot coffee too.
2) Legislative Grounds – A viewing of the statues of Kit Carson and Abraham Curry and the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along the beautiful ground of the Nevada State Legislature.

Choose from three delicious pies, Pumpkin, Pecan or Apple, and pick up them up, Wednesday, November 21, in time for Thanksgiving. Proceeds benefit the Ron Wood Community Essentials Food Bank, the Family Vision Food Truck and the Our Time Outreach Center.
