On Friday afternoon, a banquet was held inside Gold Dust West in honor of the Mayor’s First Annual Art Award, which shines a light on all of the wonderful community members who have dedicated themselves to bringing more art and culture to our capital city.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include Polar Express train rides, Touched By Angels hosts a garden craft show on Saturday, a night photo shoot at the Nevada State museum, Rob Sherwood headlines the Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget, 'Matilda the Musical' and more!

Touched by Angels in Carson City will host a Home and Garden Craft Show this Saturday at 205 East John Street. Celebrating its 9th year, the show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be great food and a raffle. See the beautiful creations of 29 local artisans metal work, bird houses, local honey, jewelry and much more.

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City invites you for early registration to “Holiday Craft Camp,” which will have your kids creating Holiday art and crafts, perfect for gifting to friends and families.

Heading into the middle of the month, we're all deserving of a high five. You can give an entire family a big cheer Thursday by donating a turkey at the annual Carson City High Five Turkey Drive hosted by FISH at Carson City Nissan. Stop by, bring a turkey and give a local family in need a happy Thanksgiving. Other events around the capital city include a Nevada Peace Officer Standards and Training graduation ceremony, a talk about earthquake preparedness hosted by Carson City Native and Newcomers Club, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more.

While much of the nation is stuck in an arctic freeze, we're stranded with abundant sunshine in Nevada's capital city area with temperatures well above normal for this time of year. Going into the middle of the work week we can expect highs near 70. Local events Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 include an Eagle Valley Middle School expansion plan community meeting, "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, a Little Valley fire re-seeding gathering, a Toys for Tots volunteer orientation meeting, art showings, classes and more.

Cucina Lupo, Carson City’s newest Italian restaurant, hosted its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday.

The owner, Mark Estee, is also the proprietor of several other local restaurants including Carson City’s The Union, Gardnerville’s Overland Restaurant and Pub, and Reno’s Liberty Food and Wine Exchange, as well as Chez Louie in the Nevada Museum of Art.

Heading into Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019 activities around the capital city include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Leave No Trace hike and, later, a full moon hike hosted by Carson City Parks and Rec, a Carson City School District board meeting, the monthly gathering of the Carson Fly Fishing Club, pole fitness and swing dance lessons at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

Everyone in Carson City is invited, always invited, to come on out and support the CHS athletic teams and programs, especially when so many of these individuals and teams have been so successful. A great many athletic events are happening this week and beyond with regional competitions in soccer, and state competitions in tennis and cross country.

Happy Sunday, Carson City! But it's not the end of the weekend yet, at least not for some, thanks to Veteran's Day Weekend. Here are the events left for the rest of the weekend!

A public auction is to be held Saturday, Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. at Cafe at Adele’s.

Following the fire that closed Adele’s doors for good, its items and goods will be available for purchase with a preview on Friday from noon to 2 p.m.

For the past five years the Carson City Classic Cinema Club has been showing the great 'Golden Age of Hollywood' films to local moviegoers as a way to promote art education in the community. The club's founder notes its acceptance thus far has been slow going but, so far, successful.

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. The first week of November marches along with sunshine to continue into the foreseeable future. Events ahead for this Thursday include a regular meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a Mammovan stop at Nevada Health Centers, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike, and an evening with local artist Rebecca Fox at Artsy Fartsy Gallery. Events around the capital city Wednesday, Nov. 6 include gallery showings, a Veterans Day assembly at Sierra Lutheran High School, the first "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, a presentation, "Nevada’s Ancient Rock Art: Art for All Times" hosted by Capital City Arts Initiative, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

Every holiday season for the past 20 years, reindeer sculptures have been created by local school children (an estimated 60,000 of them) under the tutelage of Willow Bill. Ask any participating teacher about Bill’s lessons in safety, math and associated topics, and they’ll share how enthusiastically their young students learn the lessons he shares.

As part of the Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Snapshot: Culling Our History from the Family Album, opens on December 5, 2019, at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery in Las Vegas. The exhibition is presented in partnership with the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) University Libraries Special Collections and Archives. Snapshot is co-curated by Peter Michel, Interim Director of Special Collections and Archives, and Aaron Mayes, Curator for Visual Materials. The exhibition will be on display December 5, 2019, through January 23, 2020.

Settling into the week as we head into Tuesday, Nov. 5, activities around the capital city include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Salvation Army holiday job fair, plus a grant workshop through the Nevada Arts Council, an evening showing of the 1951 film "An American in Paris" hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club, pole fitness and swing dance lessons at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

What is Fight Camp? It is a mix of martial art drills, acrobatic conditioning, circus conditioning and boot camp style circuit. Fight camp is excellent for any athlete looking to cross train to up their game, or for the family wanting to stay fit and have fun at the same time. 3 classes a week offered! Just seven tickets remain for the 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $200 and must be purchased in advance; none will be sold at the door.

A little over 40 years ago we were instrumental in helping acquire the Brewery Center for the Arts campus. We then set about creating our gallery and have been up and running continuously for the past 40 years.

The 2019 season for CHS girls golf was a great experience for everyone on the team. This year, the team was comprised of five girls: Karen Beglin, Sophia Taggart, Karrina Ferris, Brooke Gudmundson, myself, and our coaches, Wade Greenlee and Jack Butler.

Heading into the last day of October and you know what that means: Happy Halloween! Best to bundle up under the costumes as Thursday will be another chilly day, though warmer than Wednesday. On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a public talk, "Nevada’s Ancient Rock Art: Art for All Times" by archeologist Pat Barker, Ph.D. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series.

Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.
