Sunday, April 30: Things to do around Carson City and beyond

Take advantage of the spring sunshine and seize the day. Virginia City roars with the sound of their annual Grand Prix. Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.

The Earth Spirit Faire has returned to the Nevada state capital, featuring several craft vendors and practitioners in the healing arts, massage, and intuitive readings inside the Carson City Community Center gymnasium Saturday and Sunday.

Mark Twain Elementary to host My School Color Run this Saturday at Mills Park

Mark Twain Elementary School will host its community wide My School Color Run this Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. at Mills Park in Carson City.

Participants are encouraged to sign in early beginning at 9 a.m. The two mile event, a fundraiser for the school, is designed as all ages walk, jog or run and is for all fitness abilities.

During the event, participants pass through designated color zones as part of an enhanced spring time bounty of full on colorful experiences. This is the second annual event.

Moose Lodge to Host 39th annual Easter Egg Hunt succeeding Kiwanis of Carson City

Carson Now was told this Saturday morning that rain or shine the drive through Nativity was going to happen. Carson Now was encouraged to let people know that rain or shine the event was going to happen. This was obviously not the case. Organizers were forced to cancel the event for Saturday due to road conditions after being contacted by Carson City officials. Carson Now regrets this error on behalf of organizers.

Rain or shine, Carson City's annual Drive Through Living Nativity will be held this weekend. The annual event will be Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10-11, 6:30-8 p.m. Enter at Division and King Streets, west of Carson Street.

Virginia City celebrates 'Hauntober' with events, ghost and cemetery walks, Halloween parade

The sight of a pair of outhouses barreling down the street with thousands cheering them on in an all-out, old school potty race would probably be considered an odd form of entertainment almost anywhere, but not in Virginia City.

This annual fall tradition on the Comstock, the World Championship Outhouse Races, takes place the first weekend of October and pits teams of three costumed outhouse racers against each other, sprinting down the town’s historic main street, C Street, toward the toilet paper finish line.
