The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. We made it, Carson City! It’s Friday, and the first day of summer is this weekend. The Reno Rodeo has begun, and there are several days to get in on the action. Tonight, Carson City BMX is hosting Race for Life, and anyone with a bmx bike and a helmet can participate in helping them raise funds for a good cause. The annual Powwow kicks off at the Stewart Indian School with Grand Entrance at 7 p.m. Head to Comma Coffee and celebrate eleven years of World Dance Open Floor: just watch or sign up to show your moves.

A Carson City man involved in the early Sunday morning fatal head-on crash in Washoe Valley, who was driving the wrong way on the I-580 freeway with his lights out before plowing into a SUV killing a passenger, was convicted in June 2012 of reckless driving and obstruction and was arrested for DUI in 2007, court records show.

A passenger inside a SUV that was struck head-on by a car going the wrong way on I-580 through Washoe Valley died at the scene early Sunday morning, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Three other vehicles were involved in secondary crashes in which the victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The name of the person who died has not been released. The crash happened at 2:15 a.m. in the northbound lane just south of Bellevue Road in Washoe Valley, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

A 63-year-old Reno man was arrested Friday on felony charges including possession of a stolen car after he allegedly attempted to sell the car at a Carson City automotive lot, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Donald Brown Kimball was booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, uttering a forged instrument and possession of a controlled substance, all felonies. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Two dead, 2 critically injured in Sparks crash involving wrong way driver on Interstate 80

Two people died and two are injured in a head-on crash early Saturday on Interstate 80 involving a vehicle going the wrong way near Sparks Boulevard, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded at 3:15 a.m. to the crash west of Sparks Boulevard, involving a 1990 Mazda pickup driven by an adult male driver along with a male passenger who were traveling the wrong direction, going westbound in the eastbound travel lanes of I-80, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family.
