NHP to hold candlelight vigil Friday for families, victims of Nevada roadway crashes

In the past two years, 654 people lost their lives in traffic crashes on Nevada’s roadways. This number not only represents a tragedy in terms of the loss of life, but also in terms of the lasting effect a traffic crash can have on those who are left to grieve.

Ha! That sounds spooky. I imagine a horror movie where the phone is ringing. Instead of the creepy guy from the Scream movies on the other end it’s a beast, or perhaps a machine, on the other end of the line. It sounds like a B movie. But really, what is calling you is your purpose.

Comments for Board of Supervisors

Following are comments I wrote 01/04/2017 but was unable to give at the BOS Meeting as I was home sick with a cold. Given the article in the Nevada Appeal today, I believe they are still timely:

So, my brother, Rex, and I were talking the other day about whether or not I was going to be attending the next Board of Supervisors (BOS) meeting. I told him that after the Vintage at Kings Canyon development was shoved down our throats, I didn’t have anything new to make public comment on, but was sure that something would come along.

Forest Service campgrounds, roads in Tahoe Basin to close for the season

U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin closing recreational facilities and forest roads around the Lake Tahoe Basin for the winter season beginning this Sunday.

Forest Service plans include pile burning in Little Valley and Clear Creek south of Carson City

The U.S. Forest Service announced Wednesday its hazardous fuels reduction burning plans for the Carson and Bridgeport Rangers Districts. Among those planned pile burns include 102 acres in Little Valley near the area of last year's catastrophic wildfire in Washoe Valley.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Luau nets record 17 percent of 2017 operating costs

The 24th annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Luau, the Club’s main fundraiser of the year, collected approximately 17 percent of its overall operating costs for the organization’s Carson City and Carson Valley locations. The event featured live music, dinner and no-host bar along with both live and silent auctions.

Groundhog Day for the Gun Controllers

We were greatly saddened and angered by the October 1 attack launched by a terrorist from MGM’s Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on the Route 91 Harvest Festival 2017 music concert.

The people we know who were at the concert all had left prior to the attack or managed to get away unharmed. But we have friends who lost people in this horrendous attack. And even folks who did not know anyone directly affected by this mass murder are rightly shocked, angered and troubled by it.
