Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Woman jailed for heroin possession after traffic stop
An 18 year-old woman was arrested early Saturday morning at 12:58 a.m. in the area of Winnie Lane and N. Carson Street for felony heroin possession and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.
Celina Julia Krnaich of Carson City was taken into custody following a traffic stop on the vehicle she was riding in for a non-functioning headlight.
According to the arrest report, the driver was a 17 year-old minor recognized by sheriff's deputies due to previous law enforcement contacts for alcohol and marijuana.
Both the driver and passenger were identified, and a records check on both of them went through Carson City Dispatch, which informed the deputy that Krnaich had been contacted by emergency personnel the previous night for a heroin overdose.
Both occupants were asked to step out of the vehicle and a K-9 officer performed a free-air sniff that resulted in a positive alert, the report said.
The juvenile informed deputies that she had marijuana and a pipe inside the vehicle, and that both belonged to her. A slight odor of alcohol could be detected coming from the minor's breath, the deputy noted in the report.
She further admitted to having consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana just a few hours before, the report said.
A search of the vehicle recovered the marijuana pipe with marijuana residue on it, as well as syringes and a burnt metal spoon featuring a sticky brown substance located inside Krnaich's purse.
The discovered brown substance was noted to be consistent with heroin, the report said.
Krnaich was then detained in handcuffs at that point.
The juvenile driver was investigated at the scene for driving under the influence (DUI), the report said, having shown clues of obvious impairment on standard field sobriety testing (SFST) and a preliminary breath test (PBT) of .049 percent breath alcohol content (BAC).
The minor was transported to Carson City Juvenile Detention.
Krnaich was taken to the Carson City Jail, where she was booked on felony heroin possession. During intake, more heroin was found on Krnaich. Bail: $3,637.
In other arrests:
— A 42 year-old Silver Springs woman was initially arrested early Saturday morning at 12:44 a.m. in the area of East William Street and North Saliman Road on an outstanding misdemeanor bench warrant, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, before a controlled substance was recovered in a search.
Kelley Denise Gagnon was taken into custody following a traffic stop for a non-functional headlight. During the stop, the suspect was unable to provide proof of insurance or vehicle registration.
A records check through Carson City Dispatch showed Gagnon had a suspended driver's license as well as an active arrest warrant for failure to appear issued by the Fernley Municipal Court, the arrest report said.
Gagnon was placed in handcuffs at that point and a search recovered a small pink pouch containing white pieces of paper folded into strips. Those strips contained a white powdery substance, the report said.
Upon being Mirandized, Gagnon stated the substance was aspirin given to her by a friend. The substance was taken as evidence for laboratory testing.
Gagnon was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Carson City Jail, where she was booked. Bail: $4,401.
— A pair of California 18 year-olds, a woman and a man, were arrested Saturday morning between 3:30 and 4 a.m. in the area of Carson and Stewart streets for misdemeanor marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia possession, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.
According to the arrest report, a traffic stop was made on a blue sedan with a headlight out.
A Sheriff's deputy made contact with the female driver and an odor marijuana could be smelled coming from inside of the vehicle. The driver was observed to be very slow in her responses to the deputy and her pupils were dilated, the report said.
The driver complied when asked to exit the vehicle and she consented to standard field sobriety testing (SFST), which were completed unsatisfactorily showing signs of impairment, the report said.
When questioned, the driver admitted to having smoked "a few bowls" of marijuana an hour earlier. She did not seem fully alert, unable to recall where she had been when she smoked the marijuana and only vaguely could recall where she was currently located, the report said.
Based on the results of the SFSTs and information gleaned from the driver, deputies placed her in handcuffs. She was charged with misdemeanor first-offense driving under the influence (DUI) in addition to the marijuana possession, the report said.
The male passenger was also questioned during the stop and investigation. He produced a clear plastic bag containing marijuana and consented to a search of his backpack, from which a bong was recovered, the report said.
The male suspect was handcuffed and placed in custody for the misdemeanor marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession.
A subsequent search of the vehicle recovered more marijuana in a clear container and two more bongs. A search of the male at detention also recovered concentrated marijuana on his person, the report said.
Both suspects were booked into the Carson City Jail. Bail for the woman: $3,083. Bail for the man: $1,874.
