Carson City offers curbside and drop off Christmas tree recycling
Carson City will provide Christmas tree recycling in cooperation with public works and Capital Sanitation and Waste Management Inc.
As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of the dropoff locations. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch. The program continues to be a success. Last year the effort redirected 59 tons of wood waste from the city's landfill.
The dates for tree collection are:
Curbside collection will be from Jan. 6, 2014 through Jan. 10 on your regular trash day. If trees are longer than six feet, please cut them up into sections no longer than six feet.
Drop boxes will be at the following locations Only from Jan. 6, 2014 through Jan. 10:
— J.C. Penney parking lot
— North Town Plaza/near Bully’s
— Capital Sanitation, 5560 Sheep Dr.
— Carson City Corporate Yard/Butti Way – just west of Carson City Public Works on Airport Rd.(Formerly Butti Way)
— Carson City Landfill (Green Waste Pile)
After Jan. 10, Christmas trees can be taken to the Carson City Landfill for recycling.
Trees left curbside after Jan. 10 will be disposed of as garbage and will need to be cut into three foot sections so they will fit into the Waste Management trucks.
Note: Remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases from the trees before recycling. Call the Carson City Environmental Control Authority at 8872355 ext. 7390, 7380 or 7376 for further information.
