Nevada DETR provides $1.1 million grant to help prospective teachers finish school
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation is providing the Nevada Department of Education with $1.1 million to grow Nevada’s educator workforce through “Incentivizing Pathways to Teaching” Grant Program. This collaboration will ensure that more than 1,300 students will complete their programs, become fully licensed educators, and ready for employment by the fall of 2024.
“It is so important for us to invest in the next generation of educators, allowing qualified candidates to fulfill their dream and empowering others to follow a career in a classroom,” said DETR Director, Christopher Sewell. “This funding will allow NDE to extend their program, helping educators and their families to overcome financial hardships as they complete their preparation programs.”
The Incentivizing Pathways to Teaching Grant Program (IPT) provides tuition assistance for aspiring teachers in their final year of an educator preparation program. It also provides stipends during their student teaching clinical field experience.
“The Nevada Department of Education is extremely proud of how successful the IPT Grant Program is. We launched in the fall of 2021 and already it has empowered more than 1,300 aspiring teachers to pursue careers in education. We are very grateful for DETR’s partnership as it allows us to expand services without having to turn any educators away,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jhone Ebert.
Students may receive tuition assistance at any time during the final three semesters of their program, and stipends during their student teaching semester. If accepted, each candidate who receives these funds must obtain a Nevada standard teaching license and seek employment in a public school in the State of Nevada.
