Firehouse Subs presents check to Carson City first responders
Members of the Carson City Fire Department and Sheriff's Office gathered Thursday afternoon at Firehouse Subs, located at 3120 Highway 50 East, for a check presentation by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, the charitable arm of the national chain. See the full story here.
Foundation Programs Senior Manager Jackie Gubbins presented a check for more than $47,000 to Carson City Fire Chief Bob Schreihans, who said the donation represented the cost of a brand new ambulance chassis that the department is putting into service in the community.
"What we did was take the box off an old unit and placed it on the new chassis," Chief Schreihans said.
The old ambulance unit, just a chassis itself now, is being refitted with a flatbead for use in the department's wildland firefighting unit to haul heavy equipment, he said.
Schreihans said the old unit had nearly 190,000 miles on it and was in need of being replaced.
The new chassis, he said, will give the department about five full years of good use.
The brand-new ambulance chassis was on display Thursday at Firehouse Subs for the donation presentation. It is assigned to Station 51, the department's main firehouse off Stewart Street.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong was also in attendance Thursday to thank the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for its donation of a new $1,300 Automated External Defibrillator (AED) unit to be used by officers in the field.
Furlong said the unit is currently at the sheriff's office ready for use.
