Carson City deputies make arrests for assault on officer, ex-felon in possession of firearm

A 53-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for felony suspicion of assault on a police officer and misdemeanor resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Eugene Adkism, listed as a transient, was arrested at 2:54 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Carson Street.

According to the arrest report, the man was inside Friends in Serving Helping, also known as FISH, was being disruptive and told to leave. He shouted multiple profanities at staff and at the officer, the arrest report states.

The man, known to have a mental illness, left the building and then returned, yelling more profanities and causing a disruption. The man attempted to take a swing at the officer, missing him. A backup deputy was called to the scene.

The man continued to swear and resisted arrest. He was cuffed and booked for suspicion of assault on a police officer, resisting and disorderly conduct. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrests:
— A 34-year-old Carson City man, Anthony Ray Jacinto, was arrested Wednesday, 1 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street for suspicion of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, being an ex-felon in possession of a stun gun, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after seeing a SUV driving eastbound on East William Street with an expired temporary tag. The deputy conducted a routine wants and warrants check on the man and was advised he was an ex-felon for weapons and drug charges.

Due to nervous behavior, a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and the man’s extensive drug history, a canine did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive.

The man agreed to a field sobriety test and did not show significant signs of impairment, the arrest report states. He admitted to smoking marijuana the previous evening. During a search of the vehicle the deputy located a stun/taser gun in the front passenger door compartment and a loaded Ruger LCP .380, in the glove box. Also in the glovebox was a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine and meth residue inside the pipe. Bail: $43,637.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man, Justin Lee Bird, was arrested Wednesday, 12:50 a.m. in the area of Roop and Park streets for felony suspicion of parole and probation violation and misdemeanor improper turn at an intersection.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop for the turning violation. A wants and warrants check through dispatch returned with 8 non-extraditable warrants out of Clark County. Deputies were advised he was under supervision of Parole and Probation. He was arrested and held without bail in lieu of a Parole and Probation hearing.

— A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 9:59 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, no proof of insurance, driving with suspended registration and a stop sign violation.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after observing a white sedan failing to stop at a posted stop sign.

The deputy followed the sedan and did a registration check which revealed it was suspended. During the traffic stop the deputy could smell an odor of alcohol. The man agreed to submit to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath sample with a .093 and was arrested. At jail he provided evidentiary breath samples of .063 and .060. Bail: $2,098.

— A 47-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday, 9:13 p.m. on Camballeria Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of assault.

According to the arrest report, the woman allegedly threw a chair at a family member Monday at a medical facility. The family member wished to press charges. The incident was witnessed by one other person, the arrest report states.

The woman was read her Miranda warning. She denied making any threatening statements or throwing the chair. Bail: $637.

— A 26-year-old female transient was booked into Carson City Jail Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. for two misdemeanor contempt of court warrants issued in January 2013. Bail $8,0000.

— A 30-year-old Minden woman was arrested Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Carson Street for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant out of Carson City and a contempt of court warrant out of Douglas County. Bail $1,355.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.

Schools receiving the designation have committed to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and their families.
