Carson City man jailed for embezzlement, admits to stealing from employer

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for felony suspicion of embezzlement from his employer, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Justin Edward Keller was arrested at 4:46 p.m. at a department store in the 3800 block of South Carson Street.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was called to the store and met with loss prevention who informed they had an employee detained. The employee admitted to stealing multiple items over the past few months during an interview prior to the deputy’s arrival, the arrest report states.

Loss prevention stated the confession was recorded and there was video evidence of the man taking items and leaving the store without paying. An itemized list of the items stolen was valued at $1,019, according to the arrest report.

The deputy read the suspect his Miranda warning and the man said he understood and agreed to speak. He stated for approximately the past 3 months he had taken items from the store. He stated he knew what he was doing was wrong and felt bad about taking the items. He stated he had signed a promissory note with loss prevention prior to arrival. He was arrested for suspicion of embezzlement. Bail: $10,000.

In other arrests:
— A 36-year-old Dayton woman and a Carson City Jail inmate, Michelle Deann Mcknight, was booked on a felony warrant alleging burglary and a misdemeanor warrant alleging theft both out of East Fork Township Court, issued Oct. 6, 2017. Bail: $6,000.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man, Kaleb Cartwright, was arrested Saturday, 7:50 p.m. in the 4500 block of Gentry Way for felony suspicion of destruction of property. According to the arrest report, the man allegedly destroyed the door to a trailer. Bail: $2,500.

— A 36-year-old Carson City woman, Danielle Marie Kiner was arrested Sunday, 1:26 a.m. in the area of Carson Meadows for suspicion of felony parole and probation violation. According to the arrest report, the woman had been drinking, a violation of conditions through Parole and Probation. The woman stated she had a beer. She had a .093 preliminary breath tests. Parole and Probation advised deputies to arrest the woman for violation of conditions. She was held without bail awaiting a hearing.

— A 31-year-old Napa, Calif., man, Anthony David Dutra, was arrested Sunday, 2 a.m. in the area of Highway 50 East and Lompa Lane for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance-meth, and three misdemeanors: impeding traffic, possession of drug paraphernalia and a failure to appear traffic warrant. Bail: $3,924.

— A 28-year-old Washoe Valley man was arrested Sunday, 6:13 a.m. in the area of Fleischmann and Nevada streets for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a parked car. A reporting party told dispatch the driver got out of the vehicle and appeared drunk.

According to the arrest report, the man admitted to drinking, showed signs of impairment on standardized field sobriety tests, and provided a preliminary breath test of .294.
The man was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared and agreed to evidentiary blood tests. Bail: $1,137.

— A 67-year-old Dayton man was arrested Sunday morning for driving with a revoked license, driving without an interlock device and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation hold, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Bail: $2,274.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11:55 p.m. in the area of Sycamore Glen Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of disturbing the peace. According to the arrest report, several calls came into dispatch regarding an intoxicated man yelling obscenities and banging on the front door of a residence. The man also went through a backyard of a neighbor and was yelling obscenities. He told deputies he thought he was on Goldfield Drive and was trying to get into a friend’s residence. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .254. Bail: $192.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11:28 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report the man failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of North Carson and Telegraph Street. He showed signs of drinking and agreed to sobriety tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .100 and was arrested. Bail: $1,137.

— A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 8:35 p.m. in the 300 block of South Carson Meadows for misdemeanor suspicion of filing a false report. Bail: $637.

— A 53-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday, 4:06 p.m. in the 1400 block of East William Street for a gross misdemeanor warrant alleging he aimed a firearm at a person. The warrant was issued Nov. 9, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $2,500.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11 a.m. in the area of Century Circle for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance-meth, and a possession of drug paraphernalia, a meth pipe. Bail: $3,637.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 5:24 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor suspicion of violation of bail conditions, trespassing and obstructing. Bail: $3,654.

NV Energy reports 2,636 customers without power Monday morning in Carson City. The outage was reported at 9:46 a.m. At this time there is not an estimated time of restoration. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5PM: Fire crews will be mopping up the Callahan Fire overnight and into tomorrow. One primary residential structure was lost along with multiple outbuildings. The cause is under investigation at this time. Some fire evacuations remain in place at Callahan Rd and Fawn Lane as crews mop up hot spots. See Perimetermap.com here for evacuation updates.

UPDATE 12:55PM: The fire is estimated at approximately 100 acres; approximately 3,000 people have been impacted by evacuations. Rain is falling on the fire scene. Additional Strike Teams totaling 10-15 engines have begun arriving to assist on the fire, according to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which tracks fires in the region.

Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, the Washoe County Alert system sent out an evacuation notice to residents in the Callahan Ranch area stating they should evacuate immediately.

The evacuation point is at South Valleys Library located at 15650A Wedge Pkwy, Reno.

Dayton Elementary students were treated Friday to a helicopter fly-in by the Nevada National Guard as part of the school's Veterans Day program.

A team from Nevada National Guard landed a helicopter on the soccer field after the school's Veterans Day assembly. Dayton Elementary is the only school in Lyon County that is a Purple Star School.

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and is a federal holiday to honor all veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. A number of events are planned in Carson City and surrounding counties.

Charle Abowd, a world renowned, award-winning chef and restaurateur but even more than that a philanthropist and community fixture for decades, died Saturday evening, according to longtime friends.

Abowd, 73, was a pioneer in farm to table dining, along with his wife Karen who co-owned Cafe at Adele's, he was a champion and supporter of music and the arts. He was a man who dedicated himself to lifting up others.

The Morgan Mill High-Water Mark unveiling will be held on Nov. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morgan Mill River Access Area, 5597 Morgan Mill Road. This high-water mark project is an outreach tool designed to let people know their flood risk and to underscore how floodplains and open spaces work together to reduce their flood risk.
