All Clear: White powder brought to Carson City Sheriff's Office is gypsum material

UPDATE 12:35 p.m.: The substance that led to the closure of the Carson City Sheriff's Office this morning has been identified as a gypsum-type material, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Barricades on East Musser Street have been lifted and the road to the sheriff's office is open. The front office will open sometime after 1:30 p.m., said Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is closed this morning after a woman brought in a package from China that contained an undetermined white powdery substance.
Four people who had closest contact with the substance have been quarantined as the Carson City Fire Department is attempting to determine what the substance is, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The woman brought in the package at around 10 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office at 911 Musser Street will remain closed until it is determined if the substance is non-toxic, said Furlong.
Furlong said the woman took the package, with a China address, to the sheriff's office after opening it and discovering a white powder.
She took it to the front counter of the sheriff's office, exposing it to four people. Furlong said Hazmat was also called and they are going through the steps taken to determine what the substance is. The front administrative office was closed but the building was not evacuated and all systems aside from the front counter and closure will continue as is.
