Carson City deputies make arrests for suspected arson, robbery and domestic battery crimes

A 31-year-old man was arrested Nov. 24 for suspicion of first degree arson, a felony, and misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Ronald Thomas Moore was taken into custody t 9:12 p.m. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatch to a Pheasant Drive residence in reference to a domestic battery.
Deputies arrived and could hear a man screaming and breaking items inside the residence. There was also broken glass on the ground in front of the door, the report states. The man was heard screaming that he was not going to go to jail and that law enforcement was going to have to shoot him, the report states.
After talking with the man for several minutes, the front door of the residence opened and the man's girlfriend exited with her four children, the report states.
As that happened, smoke began to billow from inside the residence. The man came out onto the patio of the residence and stated he was going to surrender. He then went back inside and came out onto the patio holding a couch cushion that was on fire. He began to climb the gate to the enclosed patio. As soon as he was within grasp a deputy grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him off the gate and onto the ground, the report states.
With the help of other deputies on scene he was placed in handcuffs and arrested and taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital for medical clearance due to burn marks on his hand. He was read his Miranda warning.
He stated he became angry and started breaking items in the apartment and stated he grabbed the female victim by her arm and turned her around to look at him. The man stated he placed a couch cushion inside the oven and turned it on, and then opened the front door so the female and their children could leave. He was booked for suspicion of first degree arson, a felony, and misdemeanor domestic battery. Bail: $40,000.
In other arrests:
— A 43-year-old man was arrested early Monday, Nov. 29 for suspicion of felony robbery and misdemeanor being an intoxicated pedestrian, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Lee Ross was taken into custody at 3:14 a.m. According to the booking report, deputies responded to a report of a man who stole a bicycle. The victim was riding his bike when the suspect allegedly confronted the victim, taking a fighting stance, and telling him to give him his bike or he would punch him. The victim said he tried riding away but the subject grabbed the rear tire of the bike, causing him to fall forward and off the bike. The suspect then grabbed the victim's bicycle and fled.
Deputies were given a description of the man. Also, the bicycle was located nearby. Later, at around 2:41 a.m. dispatched alerted deputies that a suspicious subject was holding a baseball bat. The suspect matched the description provided by the victim.
The man was taken into custody for suspicion of robbery. He provided a preliminary breath test of .222 and was taken to jail. Bail: $40,000.
— An 18-year-old man was arrested Nov. 24 for suspicion of domestic battery with strangulation, a felony offense, and two gross misdemeanors, false imprisonment and child abuse/neglect/endangerment, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Elvis Efrain Gonzales was taken into custody at 11:34 a.m. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a domestic battery report possibly involving strangulation.
Officers spoke with the victim, who said she arrived at a motel room after agreeing to meet her boyfriend there. She was with her two children. The victim said the man began calling her names. When said she wanted to leave, he allegedly grabbed her by the back of the neck and forced down onto a bed.
When she said a second time she wanted to leave, and tried to grab the child's car seat preparing to leave, the man allegedly pushed her up against the wall and placed his right hand around her throat, causing her to gasp for air. The man then let her go, the woman told deputies.
The woman said she repeatedly asked the man if she could leave. He refused then proceeded to make a bed for himself in front of the door, blocking it so she could not leave the room. The woman said she did not try to leave after this because she was scared about what the man might do to her or her children, the report states.
She said she awoke around 5 a.m. due to her child crying from a fever. She asked the man multiple times via text message if she could leave with her children so she could get medicine. The man refused, the report states.
Around 7:20 a.m. the man allowed the woman to leave the motel room and she returned home and called 911 to report what happened. The victim showed a deputy multiple text messages between her and the suspect.
The officer states in the report that the messages clearly showed multiple requests by the woman to leave the motel room and the man refusing. A deputy inspected the woman for injuries. The report states her injuries were consistent with a physical altercation.
A deputy contacted the man via phone and asked him to meet at the sheriff's office. At the sheriff's office he was advised of his Miranda warning and he agreed to speak.
During the interview he confirmed the two had been arguing, and admitted to pushing the victim against the wall and putting his hand around her neck and throat and admitted he applied pressure to her neck and throat. He mentioned he thought she was able to breath but when he saw her crying and gasping, he let her go. He described immediately feeling remorse.
The suspect confirmed the woman asked him multiple times that she wanted to leave. He admitted he refused to let her leave and confirmed he blocked the door by laying in front of it so she was unable to leave. The officer asked the man why he wouldn't let the woman leave. He stated he wanted to be able to talk to her in the morning, apologize and explain himself to her, the report states.
He was taken into custody and escorted to the jail for booking. Total bail amount listed: $20,000.
— An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Nov. 26 for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and minor in consumption, a sheriff's booking report states.
The man allegedly struck his sister and father during an argument about his drinking. He was restrained by his father until sheriff's deputies arrived.
The father stated he did not wish to press battery charges against his son, after he was allegedly hit in the left side of the face. The suspect's sisters were pushed by their brother when they attempted to stop a verbal argument with the suspect's girlfriend, the arrest report states.
The father stated they were not comfortable with him spending the night at home, stating he needs "help." The father further stated he does not feel safe with his son living at the residence.
During the investigation, the suspect began to hyperventilate and was taken to the hospital for medical clearance. He provided a preliminary breath test of .187. He was placed under arrest and taken to jail. Bail: $3,379.
— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Nov. 24 for suspicion of domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies were called to a domestic dispute at a drive through restaurant. Officers arrived and observed a man and woman in a vehicle and a child in the vehicle's rear passenger seat.
A deputy observed a clump of hair that was dangling on the man's upper left pant leg and asked the man what happened. The suspect said he and his wife were in a heated argument. The suspect said his wife slapped him in the chest.
The victim stated she was face palmed by the man, in which she slapped him in the chest in return. The victim stated he then grabbed her and then grabbed and yanked her hair and placed her in a headlock. She grabbed a knife and held it up to defend herself, telling him he needed to leave, the report states.
The man stated he did not pull the woman's hair but his hand got tangled with her hair when he facepalmed her, the arrest report states. He was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137
— A 52-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Nov. 26 for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI. According to the booking report, a reporting party advised that a woman who was unsteady on her feet, who fell on the sidewalk, was inside a convenience store, purchasing a 12-pack of beer, and then climbed into a vehicle and drove off.
A deputy made a traffic stop on the vehicle after having observed the driver not stopping at a stop line. The officer observed an odor of alcohol and the woman was unsteady on her feet. She agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test of .203 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,137.
— A 32-year-old Reno man was arrested Nov. 27 for suspicion of DUI. According to the booking report, deputies responded at 4:22 a.m. for reports of a sedan that had struck the reporting party's van and was attempting to leave the scene.
Deputies arrived and located the sedan, which had complete front end damage, according to the arrest report. Officers made contact with the driver, who was observed walking off after deputies arrived. The man had red watery eyes and slurred speech and an odor of alcohol coming from his person. He was advised of a field sobriety test and the driver stated he understood. The driver showed signs of impairment during tests, the report states.
He provided a preliminary breath test of .191 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. The driver was read the request for voluntary evidence. He stated he would not submit to a blood draw but would provide a breath test, the report states.
At jail the man was unable to provide and would not provide the officer with the needed breath samples to complete the investigation. An on-call district attorney and an on-call judge were contacted for a telephonic warrant, for a blood draw. The warrant was granted at 5:53 a.m. Bail: $1,137.
— A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Nov. 26 for suspicion of petit larceny, shoplifting. The suspect allegedly stole $52.68 worth of items from a supermarket. Bail: $352.
