Obituary for Joseph (Joe) R. Burnett
Joseph (Joe) Burnett March 30, 1969- July 3, 2019. Joe got his wings July 3, 2019 at the young age of 50 surrounded by family and friends. Born March 30, 1969 to Michael and Judy Burnett in Inglewood, CA Joe moved to Nevada when he was 3 years old and was a Nevadan through and through from that day forward minus the birth right all he was missing was the title of Native Nevadan.
Joe courageously fought a 3 year battle with small cell lung cancer that had already metastasized to his liver and bones when it was detected, eventually it would spread to his brain. May 5,2016 Joe was given 3-12 months to live and he beat all of the odds so he could be with his family for another 3 years.
Joe would never be told what he could and could not do so he showed the world just how strong one man could be. It was an amazing and heroic fight. The family was able to make so many more memories in the final years with side by side trips, crabbing trips, Hawaii, Pismo beach, and many more adventures. Joe amazed doctors and everyone that knew him with his strong will and love of life.
Joe worked at Heavenly Ski Resort for 26 years prior to working for the State of Nevada Enterprise IT Services as a Dev Tech 2. Joe loved his job with the state that allowed him to see all of rural Nevada working on the microwave towers. Joe touched the lives of so many and will be greatly missed, his great smile, sense of humor and adventurous outlook on life will be hard to go without.
If you were lucky enough to be his friend or family you know what it is like to be loved unconditionally and with all of his heart. The family wishes to thank Dr. Craig Conrath, Emily Guerrad and all of the staff at Cancer Care Specialist and Dr. Jenny Sutton Radiation Oncologist at Renown for never giving up and letting Joe fight his fight with dignity and allowing him to make all of the choices.
You all were never afraid to try something if you thought it would work thank you so much for giving him your all. He is survived by his loving wife Janice (Janis) Hadlock-Burnett, his children Dallas Burnett,Kaitlyn Burnett and his husky Tonka Burnett, parents Dick Hadlock, Jeannie Hadlock, Judith Inns and Suzi Sanchez, granddaughter Penelope Graves, sisters Debi Hadlock-Ramsden, Martezia Lambson, Christina Kantrud, brothers Mike Ramsden, Levi Lambson, Trevor Kantrud, nephews Michael Ramsden, Banyan Lambson, Mason Kantrud and nieces Courtney Ramsden, Hollis Lambson and Kinsey Kantrud and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be held at his parents Dick & Jeannie Hadlock's in Carson City on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 11:00am-1:00pm. This is a casual event with a light lunch. We will be telling stories and remembering what an amazing man the world has lost.
If you have a story to share and are not able to speak in a group we will have a box that you can put the stories in to share with the family. If you cannot make it at all, but wish to share your story please email: joejanny2003@yahoo.com and it will be shared at the celebration.
In lieu of flowers you can donate to: Save the Sea Turtles International, 61-529 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712, 808-637-2211. Or even easier than that you can give your vote to Trump in the next election.
