NDOT: Bike lanes coming to section of Centerville Lane in Gardnerville
Beginning Tuesday, lane closures and detours will be in place on Centerville Lane, State Route 756, near Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville as the Nevada Department of Transportation adds bicycle lanes to the roadway.
From Tuesday, Nov. 27 through late winter, Centerville Lane will be closed to through traffic between Douglas Avenue and the northern intersection with Waterloo Lane. Single-lane local access will remain open to businesses and residences in the area, but through traffic will need to detour via Waterloo Lane.
The project will widen roadway shoulders and restripe Centerville Lane to create sidewalk and bike lanes on both sides of the road from approximately one quarter mile southwest of U.S. 395 in downtown Gardnerville to the northern intersection with Waterloo Lane.
As part of the project, the Centerville Lane bridge over the Cottonwood Slough will be widened to add bike lanes and sidewalk across the bridge. Roadway drainage improvements will also be made. The project will ultimately become part of future planned sidewalk and bike path improvements to connect the Gardnerville Ranchos residential area with area parks and community centers.
The approximately $1 million project by contractor Q&D Construction will improve Centerville Lane for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as the as many as 5,000 drivers traveling the road daily. The road improvements are funded through local funds and the federally-funded Transportation Alternatives Program aimed at improving non-motorized mobility and other aspects of transportation.
