Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Suspects jailed on assault, stalking and warrant charges

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on felony charges, battery with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christoper Matthew Couch is being held on $35,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 3800 block of South Carson Street regarding two people arguing. Dispatch advised they were getting several 911 calls and one of the reporting witnesses said one of the men hit the other.

Dispatch further advised both men got into separate vehicles and they were chasing each other. One of the vehicles was described as a white sedan with a black hood. The other vehicle was described as a gray SUV. Dispatch then spoke with one of the individuals involved who was reporting a battery had taken place.

Sgt. Cullen responded to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicles. He found the white Sedan on Saliman Road and Fairview and made contact with Couch. The officer asked the man what was going on. The man said he got into an argument with another subject that tried to spit on his vehicle.

He said he took out a Maglite flashlight to defend himself because he has medical issues. He said he pointed the flashlight at the man but denied ever hitting him with it, the arrest report states.

The victim said Couch hit him with the flashlight on the left cheek. Officers observed minor bruising that appeared to be fresh. The victim stated he wanted to press charges on Couch and signed a citizens arrest form.

Couch was asked permission for a search of his vehicle. The man agreed and officers found a jar with multiple baggies of marijuana. The man told officers the baggies and pot belonged to his cousin who has a medical marijuana card. Officers later weighed the baggies and pot, which amounted to 2.8 ounces. He was arrested on suspicion of felony assault and drug charges.

In other felony-related arrests:
— A 31-year-old Reno man, Brandon Fedinic, was arrested Saturday, 6:49 a.m. in the 1200 block of East Fifth Street on a felony charge of aggravated stalking.

According to the arrest report, officers met with a victim Nov. 20 who stated that her former boyfriend, in which they had been broken up for approximately a year, had called and texted her 24 times.

The man allegedly sent threatening text messages stating that he was going to ruin her life and would do everything he could to make her miserable, the arrest report states. Also in a text message he told her that he would set a truck on fire that was parked in front of her residence.

The victim stated she knew he had driven by her home that evening because the truck he was referring to had only been parked recently in front of her home, the arrest report states. She stated that in the past year she has filled out police reports and obtained restraining orders against the man for threatening and harassing her. She stated law enforcement has been unable to serve him because he had not been located, the arrest report states.

As officers were speaking with the victim, the man called the woman on her cell phone. An officer answered the phone and Fedinic hung up. Approximately 2 minutes later he called back again.

The officer answered the phone. Fedinic stated he would talk to the officer if the phone was put on speaker mode. He stated he would not stop harassing the woman until she returned his motorcycle boots, GED diploma and clothing items. The woman stated she had none of his belongings, the arrest report said. The woman said she returned his paperwork containing the GED diploma to his mother months ago. The officer asked the man if he had checked with his mother. He stated yes and then stated “not really,” the arrest report states.

The officer informed the man that he needed to stop harassing the woman. Fedinic stated he would not stop until he was put into a “pine box,” the arrest report states.
The officer asked the man if he was suicidal or making threats toward the officer. The man stated he was not going to fall for the officer’s trap and then hung up the phone, the arrest report states. The officer attempted to contact him but he was unable to be reached.

The investigating officer made contact with the woman later in the morning and obtained a restraining order against the man. She showed officers her cellular phone where she received a text message from the man at approximately 2 a.m. referring to Hawaii Circle. He left a voice message. The officers listened to the voice message of the man making gun fire noises and then hanging up, the arrest report states.

Upon arrival officers met with the victim who said he was notified by the court that he had a court date for a traffic citation that he received Nov. 2, 2014. The man told officers he did not receive a traffic citation on that day. Officers then learned the suspect was Martin.
Officers went to the jail where Martin was already being held for a parole and probation violation. Officers spoke with him, advising him of his Miranda rights and he signed a waiver form agreeing to speak.

He told the officer that he had in fact given a deputy the victim’s information when he was stopped. He was arrested for giving false information to avoid prosecution. Bail: $10,000.
