Law enforcement conducts sex offender checks in Carson City, 2 out of 158 not in compliance

On Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division in collaboration with the Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshalls conducted a sex offender compliance check in Carson City.

During the check, 158 registered sex offenders were checked to ensure compliance with community registration as required by Nevada Revised Statute 179D.460. Two registered sex offenders were arrested for being out of compliance with their required registration during the operation.

Sex offender compliance checks are completed by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office every year. Members of the community can access information and receive notifications about registered sex offenders in Carson City through offenderwatch.com. A 28 year-old Carson City man was arrested late Friday night in the 3900 block of U.S. Highway 50 East on multiple outstanding bench warrants, including two felony counts, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Snowman spotted

This snowman was spotted on the corner of Combs Canyon and Lakeview Road on Monday morning. It looks to be about 16-feet tall with spooky eyes that appear to be 6-inch reflectors.

Public Works crews from Carson City and the Nevada Department of Transportation were busy Monday morning digging out, sanding and plowing roads from all the lake effect snow that happened Sunday.

A 57 year-old Carson City man has been identified as the fatality in Thursday night's multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 580 just south of the Galena Creek Bridge.

Philip Dale Hatley of Carson City was killed after he had exited his vehicle and was struck by another that had lost control on the freeway.

Lyon County crews have been working around the clock addressing flash flooding and snow removal. The area of east Dayton known as the Ranchos still has standing water in many locations.

According to the Carson City Board of Supervisors and Board of Health agenda for the upcoming Feb. 21 meeting, the University of Nevada, Reno Police will begin staffing the Western Nevada Campus by July 1, 2019 in an Interlocal Agreement for operational support between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the University of Nevada, Reno Police Services.

Senate Bill 7 was profiled on Nov. 14, 2018, and is summarized as, “An act relating to crimes; providing that a person who is less than 14 years of age for prostitution is guilty of sex trafficking; providing a penalty; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.”

Existing Nevada laws prohibit any person from engaging in prostitution or solicitation outside of a legal Nevada brothel.

UPDATE: 9:30AM: Power appears to have been restored to Carson City customers, according to NVEnergy.com.

NV Energy has reported that more than 4,600 power customers are without electricity Friday morning.

Four outage points have been reported so far in Carson City, including two in the area of N. Carson and William streets; one in the area of South Curry and S. Carson streets; and a fourth near Fairview Drive and S. Roop Street.

Damage to NV Energy equipment has been reported as the cause of the outages, which were reported around 8:50 a.m. Friday morning.
