Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Man hides meth in underwear, charged with trafficking

A 42 year-old Dayton man was arrested early Friday morning at 1:37 a.m. in the 2200 block of E. William Street for a pair of felony offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, including methamphetamine trafficking and drug possession for sales.

Charles Rodriguez was taken into custody after Sheriff's deputies arrived on report of a subject dropping possible narcotics at an area gaming business.

The property security officer made contact with the arriving deputy, handing over a baggie containing a substance recognized as meth, the report said.

Security also pointed out the subject that was observed dropping the baggie and positively identified him.

Surveillance footage, security said, clearly shows the individual dropping the baggie.

The deputy then made contact with the suspect and showed him recovered baggie. The suspect at first denied the baggie was his, the report said, but then appeared embarrassed and requested to talk with the deputy outside.

Once outside, the suspect said, "Ok, you caught me," while dropping his head.

Upon identifying himself to the deputy, the suspect said he wanted to speak with a lawyer before saying anything else, the report said.

The deputy returned inside the business and viewed the surveillance footage, which showed the baggie falling from the suspect's possession onto the floor and remained there until security retrieved it, the report said.

The suspect was subsequently placed in handcuffs. Two hypodermic needles were located inside a jacket pocket during the weapons search.

While being transported, the suspect told the deputy that he needed to remove something from inside his underwear before being booked, the report said.

At the jail, the suspect removed two additional baggies of meth from the front of his underwear. Total gross weight of the three baggies of meth was 7.1 grams, the report said.

Due to the amount the suspect had in his possession, he was charged with felony trafficking and booked without incident.

The suspect had left behind his vehicle in the business parking lot and that was attended to by a K9 unit, which was alerted to drug odor on exterior sniff. A search warrant was subsequently issued for the vehicle's interior.

Bail: $20,137.

In other arrests:

— A 20 year-old transient man was arrested Friday afternoon at 3:04 p.m. in the area of College Parkway and Research Way on felony drug possession, misdemeanor drug paraphernalia and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Jackson Jerald Baker was taken into custody following a traffic stop of vehicle he was riding in for suspended registration. Contact was made with the driver, who was instructed to roll down the back passenger windows, because a rear passenger was observed in the vehicle.

According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy instructed the rear passenger to place his hands on the seat in front of him where they were visible. These instructions had to be repeated to the passenger multiple times. He was identified as Baker by Nevada ID card.

A strong odor of alcohol was emitting from inside the vehicle, the report said. A wants and warrants check on all vehicle occupants showed an active arrest warrant for Baker through the Carson City Justice Court for a suspended sentence violation.

He was detained in handcuffs at that point. The driver consented to a vehicle search, which recovered a backpack directly in front of where Baker was seated. Inside the backpack, the deputies located two ounces of marijuana in a pair of plastic baggies; a glass jar containing a small amount of marijuana; a multi-colored marijuana pipe; and a black metal marijuana grinder, the report said.

Both the driver and front seat passenger denied any knowledge of the backpack or what was in it. Upon being Mirandized, Baker denied the backpack belonged to him. But based on its proximity to where was seated in the vehicle, in direct reach, the item reasonably appeared to belong to Baker, the report said.

The driver and front passenger were released from the traffic stop with a traffic violation warning, while Baker was transported to the Carson City Jail for booking.

Bail: $6,737.

— A 19 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday at 5:57 p.m. in the 2300 block of Fieldcrest Drive on an active misdemeanor suspended sentence violation warrant issued by the Carson City Justice Court, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

According to the arrest report, Sheriff's deputies performed a warrant service at a Fieldcrest residence. Contact was made at the residence with the warrant suspect, who was positively identified from a previous booking photo. He was detained in handcuffs, placed in custody and transported to the Carson City Jail without incident.

Bail: $1,000.

— A 32 year-old North Las Vegas man was arrested Friday night at 9:35 p.m. in the area of Musser and Curry streets on an outstanding misdemeanor bench warrant issued by Walker River Township Justice Court, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy responded to a reported hit-and-run crash in downtown Carson City. The crash victim was contacted and a records check performed on him. The wants and warrants check showed an active warrant for failure to appear on a speeding violation.

He was handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $160.
