Yoga class to benefit Holiday with a Hero Carson City Christmas campaign
Kaia F.I.T, a women’s fitness program, is inviting all women to work off the Thanksgiving Feast in a heroic way to help the community’s children in need.
Black Light Yoga will be offered at the Carson City and Minden locations 8 a.m. Friday at $10 per person. Proceeds benefit the Holiday with a Hero program, where about 200 children are paired with volunteers to go on a $100 Christmas shopping spree.
“It’s an amazing thing to be able to help these kids,” said Bridey Heidel, co-owner of Kaia F.I.T Carson City and Minden. “It’s a really sweet endeavor to be able to them.”
In its 12th year, Holiday with a Hero serves children in the Carson City School District’s McKinney-Vento program, which includes students living in motels, campgrounds, cars or doubling up with other families.
The yoga class will feature rows of black lights and glow-in-the-dark body paint. Participants are encouraged to wear white or neon colors.
“It’s a party-vibe atmosphere,” Heidel said. “It’s going to be so awesome.”
Volunteers for the shopping spree are typically police, firefighters, servicemen and other community leaders. Heidel said her coaches are also hoping to volunteer this year.
“I love the fact they celebrate community heroes,” Heidel said. “It empowers the heroes and inspires the kids.”
The Carson City class will be at 3633 Research Way #104, Minden's at 2231 Meridian Blvd # 2. For more information, call Carson City at (775) 841-4962 or Minden at (775) 782-4496.
