Carson City 2021 Turkey Trot returns Thanksgiving morning to Governor's Mansion

Registration is underway for Carson City's ultimate family fitness event and healthy warmup before Thanksgiving family feasts with the annual 5K and 8K Turkey Trot walk/run and the Gobble Wobble Kids Fun Run at the Nevada Governor's Mansion.

After having the 2020 event virtually due to COVID-19, this annual event hosted by St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School returns for 2021, giving participants a chance to build up their appetites and metabolism ahead of Thanksgiving dinner and football games later in the day.

Event shirts are available for all participants. Organizers note, however, that there will be no-same day registration available, so sign up now. Go here to register.

Pumpkin pies and medals will be given to the top three finishers for each race.

Organizers are also collecting non-perishable food items and winter clothing at the race to help our friends and community members in need. Here is what you need to know:

The fun run "gobble/ wobble" is a marked loop, Mountain, to Washington, to Richmond, to King, and back to Mountain. See the event Facebook page here.

T-shirt pick-ups, route map pick-up will be at Blue Zone Sports on Topsy on Tuesday, Nov. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Registration: 5K and 8K, $35 per person; Kids 12 and under $20 for all races.

A 32-year man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of gross misdemeanor possession of burglary tools and being an ex-felon failing to register, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy report.

MINDEN — At-home COVID-19 test kits will be available for distribution starting Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022 at locations around Douglas County.

East Fork Fire and Carson City Fire Department and the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol division responded early Tuesday evening to a rollover crash on US-395 in the southbound lane near Sunridge. Injuries are reported and a Care Flight air ambulance has been ordered.
The crash was reported at around 5:30 p.m. at Plymouth Drive and Highway 395. Motorists can expect delays.

Proscenium Players, Inc. is performing the comedy Four Weddings and an Elvis this weekend, Feb. 11-13, 2022, at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

A new Thai restaurant, Pink Elephant Kitchen, held its grand opening mid January at the former Lily’s China Bistro location at 1280 S. Carson Street in Carson City.

We have found that the beyond the initial collapse, the Sutro Tunnel is wide open as far as the equipment could travel. We also found that the air quality is good. We have given this information and much more to our engineer who is designing a way to reopen the tunnel and make it structurally sound.

Holiday with a Hero is hosting a 4-person scramble golf tournament to raise funds to create a college scholarship for students in need.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded late Monday morning to a vehicle crash with injuries in the 1600 block of East William Street near Rand Avenue.

he Lyon County Board of Commissioners discussed the possibility of a second bridge in the Dayton area. Currently, the only public access bridge is located off Dayton Valley Road. Lyon County has had a number of studies on this topic since 2008.
