Sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed on felony charge after allegedly breaking phone in domestic dispute
A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive on felony suspicion of preventing a victim of domestic battery from reporting the crime, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
James Corbett Hardie was arrested at 1:32 a.m. and also faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to a Woodside Drive residence. Officers found Hardie standing in the front yard. He told officers he and his girlfriend who he has children in common with, had been arguing.
He said he got tired of her yelling at him and threw a glass of soda on her. He said his girlfriend was holding their 2-month old baby when he threw the soda at her, the arrest report states. The soda went on both his girlfriend and the baby. He said when his girlfriend attempted to call 911 he tried to grab the phone from her and, he said, accidentally scratched the baby’s head with his fingernail, the arrest report states.
Hardie said he then went outside and called 911. Both Hardie and the victim had been drinking. The victim confirmed the man had thrown soda on her and broke her phone to keep her from dialing 911. The victim said Hardie did not mean to scratch the baby, he was just trying to get the phone, the arrest report states. He was taken into custody. Bail: $5,637.
