80-year-old woman rescued from Churchill desert by volunteers after becoming lost and stuck late at night
On Nov. 10 at approximately 5 p.m., 775 Offroad and Recovery received a service request from Churchill County Sheriff’s Department to assist an elderly woman who had gotten lost and driven off of a dirt road.
The woman ended up on desert dirt roads between Fernley and Lovelock. It was reported that the vehicle was not accessible by a tow truck.
775OFR dispatched the call to volunteers and a local Fallon volunteer, Brayden, responded.
The original coordinates provided to us were not correct which delayed our arrival time to the woman.
Our volunteer found the woman in her Chrysler 200 off of the road way, high centered and unable to move.
The unmaintained service road had deep wash cuts that would have been a challenge for most 4 wheel drive vehicles.
The woman ended up in the desert by following a road sign for Reno and she got turned around.
The volunteer was able to extract the vehicle and get it back on the service road. There is no charge for the service.
775 Offroad and Recovery operates on tips and donations.
The volunteers help others at their own expense.
