Carson City wakes up to cold, dusting of snow
The leaves fell. The wind blew. Then the snow came. A dusting of it anyway. Carson City woke up to frosty roads this morning and the National Weather Service in Reno says winter conditions will stick around through tomorrow.
As the storm system continues to move into the region, the valley floors of western Nevada may see some of the Lake Tahoe snow blowback. Possibly inches of it.
The weather service reports the cold and unstable nature of this weather system favors the development of narrow heavy snow bands, which can produce significantly higher snowfall amounts over a small area.
Lake effect snow bands are possible on the east side of Lake Tahoe and in the Carson Range tonight.
A Lake Effect Snow Watch has been issued from 4 this afternoon through Saturday morning. Rapid snowfall could develop near and south of Carson City into Douglas County this afternoon. Up to 8 inches are possible. Highest snow totals will be localized to very narrow bands.
