Number of Carson City building permits still on the rise
Building permits issued by Carson City are off to a healthy start following the first quarter of the municipal fiscal year (July through June), the November Community Development Report shows.
Since July, building permit valuations have exceeded $40 million dollars, the report said. Total permit valuation for the month of October alone was just over $5 million.
More than $70 million is permit valuations were recorded in all of the last fiscal year, which ended June 2016.
The greatest valuations so far this fiscal year have come from residential and new commercial construction projects, the report said.
Total number of city-issued building permits continues to rise as well. More than 150 permits have been issued in 2016 so far, including eight single family detached (SFD) permits in the month of October alone.
While SFD permits have accounted for over 50 of the building permits issued to-date in 2016, the lion’s share of permit activity has been for multi-family (MF) construction projects. Multi-family is defined as three or more attached units, the community development report states.
More building permits have been issued in Carson City this year than any other of the last nine years.
Carson City hasn’t seen a sharper increase in building permit activity since 2006, when more than 250 residential permits were issued by the city.
