Anonymous tip leads to confession in early morning west Carson City vandalism spree
An investigation involving spray paint graffiti vandalism that happened early Thursday morning on a number of streets on the west side of Carson City has led to a confession of one of the suspects, authorities said.
The confession of a 19-year-old woman believed to be involved in the vandalism spree that resulted in profanity-laced spray paint damage to 11 structures including three churches, two government vehicles, a private vehicle, the Brewery Arts Center, school property, streets, sidewalks and homes has been forwarded to the district attorney's office for review, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
"As a result of her cooperation, deputies decided to submit evidence to the DAs office that could result for the warrant of her arrest and others," said Sheriff Furlong. More interviews and information continues to be collected regarding the case, he added.
The woman was questioned Thursday afternoon after an anonymous tip was made to the Carson City Sheriff's Office, said Deputy Bob Motamenpour. The woman, who had spray paint on her at the time of questioning, said in an interview that she had been drinking at a party in the 600 block of West Musser Street early Thursday morning and was responsible for the vandalism. She said she was intoxicated at the time she did it, Motamenpour said.
The woman's name has not been released. Several people who attended the party have also been interviewed and the matter remains under investigation.
