Carson City crime log: Arrests made for drugs, eluding and DUI
A 31-year-old man arrested Friday morning faces several charges including felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and second offense DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Daniel Ray Drinkle of Sun Valley was arrested at 8:10 a.m. in the area of Robinson and Saliman streets. He also faces misdemeanor charges of suspicion of DUI second offense, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, failure to stop at a stop sign, open container, failure to maintain a traffic lane and failure to use turn signals.
According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after the vehicle the man was driving was reported earlier as a possible DUI. The deputy followed the vehicle and observed the driver failing to maintain a lane, crossing over the white line twice and failing to stop at a stop sign.
The deputy observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. He had red watery eyes and slurred speech. In the passenger’s seat deputies located a case of Blue Moon beer along with two bottles on the driver side floor board and a bottle on the passenger side floor board.
The deputy asked the man if he had drinking. The man replied “yes, all night,” the arrest report states. The man exited the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet. The deputy asked if he would be willing to submit to field sobriety tests. The man told the deputy “no I am already guilty,” the report states.
He was arrested. Prior to transport to jail the man advised he had two shotguns and a .22 caliber rifle in his trunk. A criminal history report was requested that indicated he was arrested for DUI in December 2015 and felony domestic battery with strangulation in April 2016. He provided a preliminary breath test of .265. Bail: $24,237.
In other arrests:
— A 45-year-old Sparks man, Rick Warren Carter, was arrested Friday, 5:25 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Fifth Street for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a convenience store regarding a subject who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. He was also seen hitting himself repeatedly in the head.
A deputy made contact with man who gave the deputy his wallet. Inside the wallet there was a clear plastic gum container with four small rubber balloons containing heroin. He was arrested for suspicion of possession of heroin and being under the influence of a narcotic analgesic, both felonies. Bail: $5,000.
— A 34-year-old Dayton man, Brian James Kennedy, was booked into Carson City Jail on Thursday, 1:35 p.m. for a felony theft warrant issued Sept. 27, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $7,500.
— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:43 p.m. in the area of Ivy and Mountain streets for misdemeanor suspicion of driving on suspended registration, a suspended driver’s license, not having proof of insurance and eluding officers.
According to the arrest report, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle after running the registration and learning that it was suspended.
When the deputy approached the driver, he rolled down the window a couple of inches. The officer could smell an odor of marijuana and alcohol coming from inside. The deputy told the man to roll the window down all the way. The suspect told the officer he wasn’t going to and asked the officer why he was stopped.
The deputy told the man he was stopped for the registration violation. The man stared at the deputy when he told him to hand over the keys to the car. The man then rolled up his window, turned the car on and drove away at a high rate of speed. The deputy followed the vehicle, which was driving without his lights on and through stop signs, ultimately stopping at Ivy and Mountain streets.
Once the driver stopped he became compliant with commands. He explained that he fled because he knew he didn’t have a license, registration or insurance and that he “freaked” out. He performed standardized field sobriety tests satisfactorily. He was arrested for the traffic violations and eluding. Bail: $2,123.
