Carson City arrests: Jail inmate booked for having spoon sharpened into weapon

A 20-year-old inmate at Carson City Jail was booked Monday for felony possession of a dangerous weapon by a prisoner, a sheriff’s deputy said.
Giovanni Ramirez of Carson City was arrested on the charge at 2:30 p.m. According to the booking report, a deputy was advised that information has been received regarding inmates in the Male General Area of the jail were believed to have weapons on their person.
The inmates in question were searched by deputies. During an inmate search of Ramirez, the deputy could feel an object in the man’s right sock.
Once the sock was removed the officer was able to see the object was a spoon that had been sharpened to a point. The officer led the man out of the jail area. He was read his Miranda rights and was asked if he wished to speak. He stated he wanted to continue to talk. The officer informed the man that he was wearing a body camera to record the interview.
The officer asked the man to inform him about how he came to have a sharpened spoon and asked what was the purpose that it was to serve. The man said he found it in his bed roll that came with the linen exchange earlier in the week. He continued to state that he started to sharpen it just out of something to do. He was asked if he was telling the truth and the man relayed the same story. Bail: $20,000.
In other arrests:
— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday in the area of East Telegraph and Fall streets for misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence and camping on a public road.
According to the arrest report, a deputy on patrol saw two occupied unlicensed vehicles parked on the side of the road at East Telegraph and Fall streets. One of the vehicles was an unlicensed green Ford Explorer occupied by an older white male. The other was a 1977 Dodge motorhome with all windows covered up with blankets. The officer activated his emergency lights and illuminated the vehicles with a spotlight.
As the deputy approached one of the vehicles he was approached by a subject who exited the motorhome and walked toward him. The deputy asked the man what he was doing. The man replied he was helping the subject in the Explorer because the vehicle was disabled and could not move.
Then the officer asked the subject for information. The subject said there wasn’t a reason to run his name and that he was not violating any laws. When the officer explained to the subject that camping on a public roadway is prohibited, the man became verbally uncooperative. The subject told the officer he was staying in the motorhome with another friend while helping the subject in the Ford until it was fixed, according to the arrest report.
The man later identified himself to the officer. The deputy checked him and the two other subjects through dispatch and learned they were clear, however, the subject being questioned was under supervision through the Department of Alternative Sentencing with an “obey all laws” clause. The deputy told dispatch the man would be receiving a citation for camping on a public roadway.
The Department of Alternative Sentencing then requested the deputy place a hold on the man for violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $1,242.
— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 6:58 p.m. in the area of Menlo and Lompa streets for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued Feb. 1, 2018 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $215.
— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 1:22 p.m. in the area of Northgate Lane and Hampton Drive for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued Sept. 6, 2018. Bail: $1,255.
