Carson High School Students Prepare For $3,500 College Scholarship
Eric Abowd and Steve Rose, partners and Carson City lead financial advisors at locally-based Abowd & Rose Financial Group, recently announced they will once again offer a $3,500 college scholarship in May 2013 to a local high school student.
In order to apply for consideration, students must attend Carson High School, and have at least a 3.5 GPA, participate in the Carson High School Athletic Program, and be registered to attend college on a full time basis. As part of the application process there is an essay requirement and each applicant must write a two-page essay explaining how he or she plans to show financial responsibility going into college.
Last year, Abowd & Rose Financial Group established the scholarship, which was awarded to Dylan Sawyers. Dylan was varsity football team captain, held a 3.8 average weighted GPA, and participated in the junior senators mentoring program helping elementary school children.
"At Abowd & Rose Financial Group, we believe that "life's worth planning,™" said Eric Abowd, CEO of Abowd & Rose Financial group and Carson High School Graduate. "One of the reasons we selected Dylan last year, was that from a young age he sought education on financial investments and planned well for his college education. His actions matched our values as a company and the spirit of leadership that we encourage for all of our clients throughout a lifetime."
The Abowd & Rose Financial Group Leadership Scholarship is awarded to a senior young man or young woman who exhibits excellence in academics, leadership, and participates in the Carson High School Athletic Program. One student will be selected by Abowd & Rose Financial Group and presented their scholarship during the annual ceremony at Carson High School each May. Applications are located in the guidance office and are required to be returned to the guidance office. Interested applicants may contact Carson High School at 775-283-1915.
"We encourage students to plan now and focus their energies on what it takes to qualify for this scholarship," said Abowd. "Although a student's four year high school career will be considered overall, each individual can refine their senior year activities over the next few months to strengthen their application."
