— A 31-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon following an incident involving an ax, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Sarah Leah Stankos was taken into custody at approximately 1:42 p.m., following an investigation into the incident that happened Monday.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office was called Monday to a Fairview Drive address regarding a report of a woman armed with an ax.

Dispatch advised they were landline with a female who stated a woman had just attacked her in her front yard, and had fled in an unknown type vehicle.

Officers arrived and met the victim in the front yard of her home. She denied injuries and refused medical treatment, the report states.

The victim advised the suspect held a large wooden ax with a silver metal head with both hands and swung the ax toward her torso but the ax head did not hit her.

The victim said she lunged forward, grabbed the ax handle pulling herself and the suspect to the ground. The victim stated the suspect grabbed a "handful" of her hair and pulled her head in multiple directions while they fought, going to the ground. There were large chunks of loose hair on the walkway in front of the home, consistent with the victim's story, the arrest report states.

The victim stated she and the suspect wrestled on the walkway for a few minutes before she pleaded with another person (the boyfriend of the suspect) for help as he was standing nearby. The male ran toward the victim and suspect and lifted the suspect from the victim, according to the report. The victim stated the suspect pulled a knife out of her pocket. The victim retreated into the home and called Carson City Dispatch. The victim stated the suspect fled the area prior to deputies arriving.

The following day, Oct. 26, a deputy received information where the suspect was at. A deputy responded and made contact with the suspect. She was read her Miranda warning. She told the deputy she understood. At first, she said nothing happened. The officer explained the severity of what happened and urged her to be honest. The suspect became emotional, showed remorse and admitted to making a mistake, saying she was very upset and let her emotions get the best of her, the report states.

She told the officer she brought the ax because she was afraid the victim had a weapon. She said she had no intention of using the ax but did intend to fight. She said when the victim answered the door the two began fighting almost immediately. She said she didn't remember exactly what happened but said she did not swing or thrust the ax at the victim but did remember that she was holding it.

She said the two wrestled and both fell to the ground. She admitted to grabbing the victim by the hair during the fight and at some point the other person intervened to stop the fight. She said she and her boyfriend fled when they learned the victim called Carson City Dispatch. Bail: $20,000.

The deputy spoke with the woman, and observed a marijuana pipe in a cupholder. The officer asked if she had smoked marijuana. The woman said she had earlier, at approximately 6 p.m.

The officer explained to the woman they would be doing a field sobriety test. The officer asked if she had been drinking. She replied no. During the field sobriety tests she showed signs of impairment, the report states. She submitted a a preliminary breath test with a result of .164 and was arrested.
