NDOT reminds students to enter “Love NV Waters” drawing contest
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Stormwater Program is reminding all Nevada students grades kindergarten through fifth of their chance to enter the “Love NV Waters” drawing contest going on now through Nov. 7.
The contest is an effort to help raise awareness among the younger generation about the importance of stormwater pollution prevention.
Winners will receive plaques and become published artists, with the first-place student’s artwork featured on the cover of the 2017 NDOT Stormwater Program brochure. The second and third-place students’ artwork will be featured on the inside of the brochure.
All student artwork meeting contest requirements will be shared on the NDOT @loveNVwaters social media pages.
“Water is a precious resource in Nevada and we can all do our part to help protect it,” said David Gaskin, NDOT deputy director. “We wanted to have some fun with our new campaign and include Nevada schoolchildren.”
The “Love NV Waters” drawing contest is open to all Nevada students grades K-5, including charter and home-schooled students.
Artwork will be judged based on creativity and artistry in depicting a student’s favorite activity at his or her favorite Nevada lake or river, and/or showing an activity people can do to help prevent stormwater run-off pollution.
Examples of activities, along with an educational video are available on the NDOT Stormwater Program webpage here.
Artwork submissions must be received — either digitally or in the mail — by Nov. 7. Winners will be announced via email and on the “Love NV Waters” web site on Nov. 14.
Nevada teachers can also submit student artwork with contest release forms signed by the student’s parent or legal guardian.
Mailed submissions may be sent to the Nevada Department of Transportation, Attn: Stormwater PIO Kim Smith, 1263 S. Stewart Street, Carson City, NV 89712.
Information, entry and release forms can be found here on the “Love NV Waters” web site, or by via email at loveNVwaters@dot.state.nv.us.
