WNC Marketing Students to Pitch Business Plans at Adams Hub
A Western Nevada College marketing class is taking steps outside the classroom to learn from professionals in the Carson City business community.
Next week, students from Dr. Robert Whitcomb’s Marketing Principles class will pitch their business marketing ideas at the Adams Hub for Innovation, the capital city’s’s small business incubator.
Whitcomb launched the idea last year and said his students benefited from the experience.
“Many of our students haven’t worked with real professionals,” Whitcomb said. “It puts them in real settings and helps students start their own businesses. They need to be where the business is; you can’t just teach this in the classroom.”
Students are preparing marketing plans for businesses such as snow removal, home care, sports-related activities, animal shelters, horseback riding, and more. Students will present their marketing ideas to Rob Griffin, executive director of Adams Hub; Jeff Glass, director of New Entrepreneurs Network; and Miya MacKenzie, Hop & Mae Adams Foundation chief officer.
“They will complete their marketing plans after getting feedback from the experts at the Hub,” Whitcomb said.
The experience could lead students to other opportunities, including an internships and/or employment.
“We’ve had some traction with this in the past, where they hired our students because of their interest, experience and enthusiasm,” Whitcomb said.
