NHP identifies Dayton man in fatal Carson City pedestrian crash at US-50 and Deer Run

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Dec. 17-23, 2018. Road closures expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

CHS Social Studies teacher Angila Golik, along with teachers Curtis Kortemeier, Mike Malley and John Martin, and a few other teachers, wanting to help the fire victims in Paradise, Calif. have donated completed art pieces to be raffled among teachers and the Carson City community since many of them know someone affected by the fire.

As he so often seems to with the game on the line, Nevada’s Jordan Caroline came up big in the clutch again. Caroline led all scorers with 21 points, including 12 in the second half as the Wolf Pack overcame a strong effort from the visiting South Dakota State Jackrabbits to prevail 72-68.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell was among those in attendance Saturday for the "Wreaths Across America" ceremony at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

More than 1,700 fallen military and veterans laid to rest at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City were honored Saturday morning with decorative Christmas wreaths placed on their graves by dozens of volunteers.

UPDATE: 3:30PM: NHP continues to investigate a fatal pedestrian versus vehicle crash Saturday morning that claimed the life of the pedestrian.
According to NHP, the pedestrian was walking on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 395 near the Cradlebaugh Bridge north of Minden when struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at scene by medical personnel, NHP said.
Alcohol, drugs or speed do not seem to be a factor in the crash, NHP said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Lone Mountain Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 1,700 military veterans dating back to the American Civil War.

Today they are honored this Christmas season for their service and sacrifice with Wreaths Across America, a nationwide event placing wreaths at the graves of fallen military personnel and veterans.

With every pint ordered, The Fox Brewpub will make a donation to directly benefit those affected by the deadliest wildfire in California history.

The Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range is a popular place for target shooting in a controlled, safe environment. The safety aspect of the range has come into question though, amid multiple reports of stray bullets landing on the landfill property, nearby. The general public cannot use the gun range, every day, until it is proven to be safe for workers at the landfill.

Government buildings in Carson City, as well in Las Vegas were evacuated briefly Thursday after receiving emails that reportedly were of a threatening nature. Authorities say similar bomb threats were sent to dozens of cities nationwide.
