Veterans, fallen military honored with Christmas wreaths at Lone Mountain Cemetery
More than 1,700 fallen military and veterans laid to rest at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City were honored Saturday morning with decorative Christmas wreaths placed on their graves by dozens of volunteers.
Wreath laying was preceded by a short ceremony that included a chaplain's invocation, 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.
The event, part of a nationwide remembrance organized by nonprofit "Wreaths Across America," marked the second annual ceremony in Carson City. Last year's inaugural wreath laying was organized by the Carson City Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.
"Wreaths Across America" spans more than 1,200 locations, including Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. as well venues at sea and abroad.
