Weather Service: Weekend atmospheric river brings impressive rain totals to Sierra and valleys
From an astonishing foot of rain recorded at Alpine Meadows near Lake Tahoe to 2.5 inches in Carson City, this weekend's atmospheric river event brought more than a respectable soaking to the Sierra and valleys, as seen in this selection of rainfall totals from the National Weather Service in Reno.
Snow total reports ranged from a couple inches at lower elevations up to 18 inches for the higher elevations. Locally higher amounts are likely on Sierra peaks, but the weather service hasn't confirmed it yet.

The intense mid-October storm which brought impressive amounts of heavy rainfall, high elevation snow and periods of strong winds is finally winding down.
The weather service says to expect drier conditions to set up this week with sunny skies around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, gradually growing warmer each day. Monday and Tuesday's highs will be in the upper 50s, with low 60s by Wednesday and low 70s by Thursday and Friday.
