Nevadans urged to participate in Oct. 30 Sesquicentennial 'Home Means Nevada' sing-along

Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki announced Wednesday one of the final Sesquicentennial initiatives and invited fellow Nevadans to join him, Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Nevada 150 Commission for NevadaSings, a statewide simultaneous sing-along of “Home Means Nevada.”

On Thursday, Oct. 30 at 10 a.m., Nevadans will join together to demonstrate their state pride by singing a rendition of “Home Means Nevada” in an attempt to set a record for the most people in an American state to sing their state song at the same time.

“The Nevada family has a once in a lifetime opportunity to express our Nevada pride by joining together to sing our beautiful state song to set a new world record,” said Gov. Brian Sandoval. “This is our opportunity to show the world that "Home Means Nevada.”

"Home Means Nevada" is the official state song of the state of Nevada. It was written by Bertha Rafetto in 1932 and officially adopted by the Nevada Legislature in 1933.

“I am so excited that the conclusion of our year-long Sesquicentennial celebration will end on such a high note – pun intended!” said Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Nevada 150 Commission Chair. “Consider this a personal challenge – we need to set a Nevada-style record!”

Nevadans are encouraged to participate at offices, schools, homes, parks, and community centers in setting the record by entering video or photo proof of co-workers, classes, friends, or family singing "Home Means Nevada." Video or photo proof will then be submitted on www.Nevada150.org for RecordSetter, a Las Vegas-based company, to establish and verify the record.

Participants are being asked to visit www.Nevada150.org for rules and directions on how to sign up and how to upload or mail in your video or photographic proof. The Nevada 150 website also provides lyrics as well as an orchestral version of Home Means Nevada, courtesy of the Reno Philharmonic.
