Carson City woman arrested for felony burglary after shoplifting a Giants shirt

A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 3800 block of S. Carson Street Wednesday evening on a felony burglary charge.

Angela Bowman was arrested after deputies responded to a call regarding a petit larceny charge at a Carson City retail store.

The loss prevention team of the store had Bowman detained in the security office when deputies arrived.

Bowman has at least two prior convictions for petit larceny, according to the police report.

Bowman agreed to speak with deputies and said she and her daughter had gone to the store to look at shoes for her daughter. She said she saw a Giants shirt and decided to take it. She admitted she had brought no money into the store with her.

The loss prevention associate told deputies he had been monitoring the store when he began watching Bowman walk through the men’s department. He said he saw her take the Giants shirt and put it in her purse.

He said he observed Bowman and her daughter go into the bathroom, and then came out and began walking towards the exit of the store. The bathroom was checked for the Giants shirt, which was not present.

Bowman was observed by the associate to walk past all points of sale and left the store without paying for the shirt. She was detained in the parking lot and was cooperative and followed him back into the store. In the office, the shirt was recovered.

Due to her previous petit larceny charges, she was taken into custody for burglary by shoplifting.

She was transported to the Carson City Jail without incident.

Bail: $2,500

—A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday evening for felony parole violation after a domestic dispute.

Carmen Chiodo was arrested after deputies received a report of a verbal domestic involving a brother and sister.

Deputies arrived at the Motel the man was staying in and spoke to the parties. The sister reported that there had been a verbal argument regarding her brother treating another man “like crap.”

She said the second man had come home from work early as he was feeling sick. Chiodo started to yell at him and the sister began to yell back at Chiodo. She said Chiodo came across the bed and tried to hit her, but missed.

She said she and her husband left the room to call 911.

Deputies asked the woman where Chiodo was and she responded “he was in the room talking to rock stars.”

Deputies entered the room and made contact with Chiodo who was laying on the bed. He said that he and the man had gotten into an argument because “he had come home with an attitude.” He said nothing else had happened, only an argument.

Chiodo told deputies he had to be at work at 1 am, and that he was going to go to sleep.

The woman said she and the man would be going to a Motel to spend the night. Neither party had any visible injuries, according to the police report. All three parties said they would be calm while they waited for their ride.

Dispatch told deputies Chiodo was on parole and probation. Parole and Probation advised they wanted to place a hold on Chiodo for Parole violation. He was taken into custody by Parole and Probation and transported to the Carson City Jail.

—A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 1000 block of N. Saliman Road early Thursday morning for misdemeanor obstructing.

Deputies responded to reports of a stolen vehicle in the area of Saliman and William streets. The vehicle was unoccupied and the keys were in the ignition. Deputies were searching for anyone on foot in the area when they spotted a man a few hundred yards from the stolen vehicle walking towards an apartment complex.

The deputy ordered the man to stop, who ignored the order. The order was repeated several times, at which point the man began walking up a staircase to an apartment.

At the top of the stairs, the man faced the deputy and demanded to know why he was being asked to stop. The deputy went up the stairs and told the man he needed to talk to him since he was near a stolen vehicle.

The deputy grabbed the man’s arm to stop him from going into the apartment, at which point the man aggressively pulled away and shouted at the deputy.

According to the police report, a struggle ensued. Due to the small space at the top of a staircase, the deputy said he didn't want to risk fighting with the man, and pushed the man against the apartment door and drew his taser, informing the man if he did not cooperate he would be tased.
