Suspect in Silver Springs homicides arrested in California
A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of three people from Silver Springs, Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil said Wednesday.
Scott Baskette of Silver Springs faces murder charges in the deaths of Rebecca Driver, and Frank and Coral Evans. Baskette is a former boyfriend of Rebecca Driver. The two had separated four weeks ago after a 12-year relationship, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
Baskette was taken into custody by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office in California with the support of Nevada’s DPS Investigations Division.
On Saturday evening Rebecca Driver was discovered unconscious by her children who made a 911 call to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and attempted to administer CPR. When deputies arrived on scene she was already deceased. During the course of the investigation deputies noted suspicious circumstances involved in the cause of death and detectives were brought into the case.
Later that evening deputies went to the home of Driver’s parents, Frank and Coral Evans in Silver Springs to make a next-of-kin notification. On arrival at the East Third Street home they discovered evidence that led them to believe the family could be in danger and immediately entered the home to investigate. Once inside the residence deputies found the couple deceased from fatal gunshot wounds.
Rebecca Driver leaves behind four children, ages 25, 18, 16 and 14.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Department of Public Safety Investigation Division and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Science Division on multiple leads. After careful analysis the collected evidence and interviews pointed to Baskette, according to the sheriff's office.
Baskette was taken into custody by California authorities. He is currently in the detention center in Eureka, Calif., pending extradition to Nevada.
According to a Humboldt County, Calif. Sheriff's Office news release, on Tuesday, at 5:23 p.m. a deputy working the Willow Creek area saw the vehicle Baskette was supposed to be driving on Highway 299. The deputy turned around and attempted to catch up to the vehicle which was traveling in the opposite direction.
The suspect vehicle increased speed and turned down a dirt road that was blocked by a gate. The deputy caught up to the vehicle and was able to take Baskette into custody without incident. He was later booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
Sheriff McNeil wants to thank the men and women of the Department of Public Safety Investigation Division, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Science Division and the California Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless efforts and support in this case, according to a news release.
