Carson City Parks and Recreation to host 'Tales of Fire and Water' hike up Goni Canyon
Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space this Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the "North Carson Geology Hike: Tales of Fire & Water."
Hikers will be able to join local geologist Tom Gray in exploring the geologic features found in Goni Canyon.
Hikers can expect an up-close view of cretaceous Sierra Nevada granite, an ancient river bed, volcanic ash formations, and the insides of a young volcano.
The hike will be semi-strenous up rugged hills along Goni Road, so hikers should be prepared with appropriate footwear, water, sun protection, and layers.
Attendees will meet at the dirt lot to the right of the Cinderlite gravel pit: On Goni Rd, continue North past the water tower and Avery Road. When the road takes a sharp right, the meeting place is right there.
If you have any questions, please call (775) 281-7711.
