Carson City man loitering around school jailed for having switch blade type knife, marijuana
A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon at a school and three misdemeanors including a bench warrant, a sheriff's deputy said.
The man was taken into custody at 12:26 p.m. in the area of Plaza and John streets. According to the arrest report, a deputy assigned as a school resource officer for the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was contacted by staff at Pioneer High School and were advised of two suspicious subjects loitering around the school and asking questions about the students.
The male subject entered the office area of the school. The resource officer was given a description of the subjects and located them in the area of Plaza and John streets. The officer made contact with the male subject who did not have identification on him but provided the officer his name. He was carrying two backpacks. The officer also made contact with a female subject.
The officer conducted a warrants check on both and dispatch confirmed the 19-year-old male had a confirmed warrant issued by Carson City Justice Court. He was placed into custody and cuffed. The deputy conducted a custody search and removed a knife in which the blade is released by the flick of a button, the arrest report states.
The 19-year-old male suspect was read his Miranda warning and admitted the knife was in his possession while inside Pioneer school. The deputy did a search of the backpack and located marijuana and marijuana smoking devices with residue. Bail: $7,374.
In other arrest:
— A 38-year-old man was booked on felony warrants alleging violation of bail conditions and failure to appear for sentencing in Carson City’s First Judicial Court on a burglary charge.
Christopher James Morris was booked on the warrants, issued Aug. 31 and Sept. 6, 2018. The violation of conditions warrant was attached with a no bail hold in lieu of a hearing.
— A 41-year-old transient, Derek David Collis, was arrested early Thursday, 12:40 a.m. in the area of Fairview Drive and Bobwhite Drive for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, a sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop after observing a sedan make a right hand turn onto West Fairview Drive while the light was red. The intersection had a posted sign of no right hand turn on red due to limited visibility to cross traffic. The driver was an adult female and Collis was a passenger.
While completing a traffic citation, CCSO K9 Tarzan did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive. Deputies located a small bag of methamphetamine in a case within a bag that belonged to Collis. Bail: $2,500.
