More layoffs at Chromalloy plant in Carson City; 148 let go in less than a month
In another round of layoffs in less than a month, 48 salaried and hourly employees were let go from the Chromalloy plant in Carson City, the company confirmed Wednesday. About 100 employees were laid off in late August.
Company spokesperson Cathy Gedvilas reports that the facility on Arrowhead Drive has experienced a decline in work due in part to reductions in military spending, and a flat economy in Europe and Asia affecting commercial aerospace.
"Chromalloy's Nevada facility has continued to experience a decline in work due to reductions in military spending and a flat econony in Asia and economic issues in Europe affecting our commercial aerospace business. After further review of the business climate we announced a reduction yesterday, Tuesday, of 48 positions in Carson City," Gedvilas said.
Severance benefits are being provided to employees. The layoffs affected all functional areas of the plant, she said.
Chromalloy's Carson City facility specializes in the manufacture and repair of HPT/LPT blades and vanes, and has pioneered advances in high-temperature coating of jet aircraft engine and industrial engine components.
There are two Chromalloy facilities in Carson City. One is on Arrowhead Drive and the other is on Industrial Parkway. The Arrowhead Drive facility is the larger of the two.
